Home Instead in Richmond are really pleased to be working with a local charity that produce personalised biographical films for people living with dementia. The charity ‘My Life Films’ have just produced our first film for one of our clients with many more in the production stage.
‘My Life Films’ creates a unique and upbeat account of the life of a person living with dementia.
There are two films in the package: the first is a half an hour film, organised in chapters, that tells the person's life story. It is made up of the person’s photographs, starting with childhood and going right up to the present day. Alongside the images are filmed interviews with the person and members of their family, set to their favourite music tracks.
The film maker visits the family at their own home and together they put together all of the material. It is a very uplifting experience which stimulates the memory and can maintain a sense of the person's identity.
The second short film is intended for use by carers. It is a synopsis of the most important aspects of the life story and can help care to be more personalised. The films cost £1 as the production costs are covered by donations to the charity.
The films act as an emotional stimulus and aid for the person and their carers during all stages of dementia.
