Dementia Awareness Week - Northumbria University

Home Instead Newcastle was invited to Northumbria University, the opening event to Dementia awareness week introduced by Professor Amanda Clark, the first of a week long programme of events.

The opening event had a number of speakers all of which had passion to enhance the way we care for individuals with Dementia. Presentations were given about Resilience and Family Carer's, Parkinson’s and Dementia, Design and living well with Dementia and a Carer's experience. A great example how different people from different backgrounds come together to enhance the life of those living with Dementia.

Following the presentations it was good to speak with the others at the exhibition to share ideas and good practice and to share ideas with those with a vision of what will happen in the future for people with Dementia.

Cath was also invited to speak with a number of student nurses who were studying for the nursing degree. It is pleasing to see that all Northumbria University students, as part of their training are given classroom and practical session on how to look after those with Dementia.
