Home instead on TV in Newcastle & Stoke!
You may have seen our advert on television in the Newcastle & Stoke areas recently showcasing the story of Stanley and ‘The Third Stair’. Our advert tells the story of Stanley who paints a picture of what home really means to him. Stanley reflects on the memories he has at home, including of his late wife Margaret. One of the memories is Margaret asking him to fix the ‘creaky’ third stair which now reminds him of her. “That’s home,” he says. The advert shows Stanley’s family member telling him: “Listen you don’t need to go anywhere dad, meet Christine, she’s going to help you around the house. At Home Instead Newcastle & Stoke, we’re here to help you or your loved one to stay in the place you feel the happiest for longer. If you’re looking for home care, get in touch with us by calling 01782 966720 or visit www.homeinstead.co.uk/newcastleunderlyme/contact-us Or if like Christine you’d like to care for an older person at home, get in touch with us today by calling 01782 966720 or visit ; www.homeinstead.co.uk/newcastleunderlyme/vacancies

Seasons greetings from Newcastle under Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent
At this festive time of year, it’s easy to get swept away in the excitement of all the festivities. But whilst many of us are celebrating, there are many elderly people who find the festive season difficult. There are over 2 million people over 75 living on their own in the UK, and for those who might not have many family members near-by, many can feel really lonely at this time of year. With normal routines disrupted, regular visitors and appointments put off, even the television schedule is unfamiliar, it is important that we remember to take some time to look after our elderly friends and neighbours. If you know of any older people near you, there are some simple things you can do to bring some festive cheer to their day. • Take a moment to think before you dash off to the shops with the lots of people in a rush and then there’s the weather; elderly people can find it tricky to get out. Take their shopping list with you and you’ll have done your good deed for the day. • If you have room for an elderly person to join your family and friends for a meal, why not invite them over? Older people can be forgetful about food and struggle with appetite. Eating a home-cooked meal amongst friends is a great appetite stimulant. • There are usually lots of local concerts at this time of year. Why not go along and take your elderly friend with you and get into the festive spirit together? • Older people can struggle with dexterity, so why not pop round for a cup of tea and offer to do their Christmas wrapping or help with Christmas cards? Seasons greetings to everyone from Home Instead Newcastle under Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent.
