Maidstone celebrating OUTSTANDING rating
Home Instead Senior Care based in Maidstone has received a coveted ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The independent regulatory body for the care industry recently inspected the home care company and deemed it to be amongst the top 3% of service providers in the country.
CQC inspectors spoke to Home Instead Senior Care staff and clients, as well as the families of clients. The relative of one client told inspectors, “They are a refreshing change.”
The report acknowledged that ‘people’s care plans focused on outcomes rather than tasks’ and cited numerous examples of instances where this approach improved the quality of people’s lives.
In one example, a client had not been eating well and had lost weight. Home Instead CAREGivers used the client’s passion for baking to encourage them to eat better. Baking kept the client stimulated, as well as encouraging them to eat more, and as a result, the client began to regain weight. The report also mentioned that Home Instead provides a games library, so that CAREGivers can play enjoyable, mentally engaging board games with their clients during visits, thereby offering quality companionship.
Home Instead provides care and companionship to all of its clients, enabling them to live independently in their own homes for longer. As part of the unique service, clients and CAREGivers are matched to ensure mutual interests are shared and care visits last for a minimum of one hour, providing the basis on which trusting, quality relationships form.
The report provided numerous examples of instances where staff went above and beyond the call of duty to facilitate independence and improve their clients’ quality of life.
More than one member of staff even learnt to play an instrument, in the name of supporting a client. When it was discovered that music had played an important role in the life of an anxious client, CAREGivers encouraged them to play an instrument. In doing so, the CAREGivers spent time learning the instrument themselves. The client’s stress levels and anxiety related behaviours reduced considerably.
Another success story was shared as a client and CAREGiver who both loved crafts indulged in some projects and made homemade items together for a local charity. The CAREGiver is quoted in the report as saying “They love it. It’s really important for their mental wellbeing… and they can now move their hands easier.”

One relative said, “I cannot explain the peace of mind I have after just one week of my relative receiving care from this service. It’s unbelievable the difference in the care, it’s such a huge relief.” The relative of another client echoed this sentiment succinctly by saying, “They care, and that’s what makes the difference.”
