Many Happy Returns !!
We were absolutely delighted today to send Happy Birthday wishes to our lovely client Julia, who like the Queen, is celebrating her 90th birthday! Our Community Development Officer Lois Pell joined her CAREGivers Tina and Caroline at home, presenting her with a card and flowers from the Home Instead team.
Julia shared tales from her long and varied life, of which there are many to recall. In her youth Julia was a 'Land Girl' joining the Land Army when she was just 19, signing up at Winckley Square in Preston. Her first posting was to a Manchester Farm where she was given the job of Rat catcher, collecting 800 in her first few days..... Catching and killing rats proved no problem to Julia and by the time she left at the age of 22 she had caught and killed over 1000! This proved lucrative as the Farmer gave Julia 6d for every rats tail she cut off and it didn't phase her at all. I am not sure we could say the same?!
It was lovely to see her house full of cards and cake and gifts, one of which was from her CAREGiver Hilary who presented her with a special mug celebrating her Land Army days, Julia is much loved by her CAREGivers and it is clear that the feeling is mutual. This is what makes our jobs worthwhile - helping our fabulous clients and sharing their special moments.
Happy Birthday Julia - a special lady indeed. x
