Welcome to Home Instead - Luton and Central Bedfordshire. My name is Maria Collins and I am the owner of the Company and its Registered Manager. I have a wealth of experience in health and care services gained through 30 plus years of NHS experience, culminating as a Director at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Raised and educated in Luton, I completed my nurse training at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. As my career progressed, I specialised in intensive care, infection control, commissioning of health care services and took on other roles, including Deputy Director of Public Health in central London, led a prison health care team across eight London prisons, and was a Non-Executive Director of the Faculty of Public Health.
Using my nursing expertise, I cared for my own parents, through their individual illnesses, so understand the impact of long term conditions, including dementia both on the individual and the wider family. Through this personal experience, I have seen the negative impact of poor care being delivered in my parents home, and the amazing difference that focused support delivered with care, compassion, good communication, and positive humour can bring.
I have always been passionate about delivering high quality care for those who need this. In 2010 I had my 'epiphany moment', deciding to marry my personal experience with that of my professional background and establish my own care business - one that I could build upon my personal high standards. Here at Home Instead, my Team and I strive to provide care that is delivered with care, compassion and dignity. I am proud to have developed such a supportive and responsive team with so much to give.
Our mission is to change the face of ageing in Luton and Central Bedfordshire, enabling more to experience good care by continually reviewing and developing our service offer. This is provided by our Team going above and beyond. In doing so, I believe we can achieve our second aim of 'changing the face of caring' and make the role of CAREGiver with us fulfilling and empowering.
To support these aims, we at Home Instead are playing our part in the local community. We have established a companionship based dementia focused café - [email protected], and are working towards the goals of the Dementia Friendly Communities initiative.
I am privileged to chair Luton's Dementia Action Alliance, and wear another 'hat' by chairing Luton Borough Council's Training and Development Partnership, which offers learning development to local care and support organisations. I continue to support Keech Hospice Care by being a Trustee.
