Reflecting on a fantastic National Franchise Exhibition

Home Instead was delighted to attend the National Franchise Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham earlier this month, joining a wide range of leading brands, franchise experts and aspiring business owners for one of the UK’s key franchising events.

The exhibition provided a valuable opportunity to meet people at every stage of their franchise journey. Across the event, the Home Instead team had many meaningful conversations with potential franchisees who were exploring how they could build a successful business while making a genuine difference in their local communities.

For many visitors, franchising offers the opportunity to be in business for themselves, but not by themselves. That message was central to the discussions throughout the exhibition, as attendees looked to understand the support, structure and purpose behind different franchise opportunities.

A particular highlight was the involvement of members from Home Instead’s National Office team.  Luke Spellman, Home Instead’s Franchise Development Manager, contributed to several expert sessions across the event. Luke shared his knowledge as part of the Franchise Insights Panel: ‘Do you have what it takes to be a franchise entrepreneur?’, helping attendees consider the qualities, mindset and commitment needed to succeed in franchising.

He also took part in the BFA Seminar: ‘An essential guide to the franchise recruitment process,’ offering practical guidance on what prospective franchisees can expect as they research, apply for and assess a franchise opportunity. In addition, Luke joined the ‘Franchise Resales Explained: separating myth from reality’ session, helping to clarify an important route into franchise ownership and address common misconceptions around resale opportunities.

Rob Johnson, Associate Director of Network Performance also shared his insight in the ‘How to franchise your business’ seminar.

The event was also strengthened by the contribution of Home Instead franchisees, who were able to share their own experiences first-hand.

Wafa Mohbubul, owner of Home Instead Broadstairs, Ramsgate & Margate took to the main stage to speak about expansion from her perspective as a Multi-Unit franchisee. Sunny Singh, Owner of Home Instead South East Northumberland, North Tyneside and Durham shared his franchise story as another Home Instead Multi-Unit franchisee.

Their insight helped bring the opportunity to life, giving prospective franchisees a clearer understanding of what it means to own and operate a Home Instead franchise, from building local relationships to leading a team and delivering high-quality care.

These conversations were a reminder of the importance of choosing a franchise that aligns with both commercial ambitions and personal values. For Home Instead, franchise ownership is about building a sustainable business with purpose: supporting older people to live well at home while creating meaningful employment and making a positive impact locally.

Luke commented: “The National Franchise Exhibition was a brilliant opportunity to connect, network and share honest insight into the Home Instead franchise opportunity. It was encouraging to meet so many people who are considering their next chapter and are interested in using franchise ownership as a way to make a difference.

“Home Instead would like to thank everyone who visited the stand, joined the seminars and took the time to speak with the team. We look forward to continuing those conversations and supporting more future franchisees as they explore whether Home Instead is the right opportunity for them”.
