Five steps to franchise growth

A roadmap for your franchise journey

These steps will take you through the key milestones in growing your franchise, including the organisational changes, resources and support you’ll need, along with new initiatives and projects to help you along the way. Your physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing is vital – and our Wellbeing Framework will help you to be in the best possible shape to run your business effectively whilst also enjoying it.

1

Establishing the foundations

From the start, you’ll need to embed the basics of the franchise journey into your business by defining a clear vision and culture for your franchise. This will include a focus on standards, quality, and networking, and having a clear business plan.

As part of the Home Instead brand, you’ll be a business partner not an employee. This means that, more than just being a legal partnership, the relationship must be built on mutual respect, honesty, and a joint belief in the organisation’s aims.

Developing your operations

This will involve building on the foundations of the franchise journey by refining your processes, creating a strong momentum in sales and marketing, and focusing on RASCI (Responsible, Accountable, Support, Consulted and Informed) criteria.

You can build on the business plan from step one to help you focus on your strategy and marketing plans, as well as execution plans for how you intend to operate and develop, and possible forecasts and predictions. This may sound overwhelming, but we’ll be there to support you every step of the way.

Planning for growth

To grow, you’ll need to re-invest in your business. This will include the expansion of marketing activities, and investment in the development of key players as you start to build a senior leadership team. As the franchise owner, you should move from being in the business to working on the business.

If you want to succeed, then hiring and investing in the right team is crucial - from competent managers, to dedicated care staff. You need a team you can trust to keep things running on the ground, so that you can focus on the next step.

Strengthening your strategy

You’ll then need to develop your senior leadership team by introducing a sales and marketing function. Empower your Key Players to run the business operations and refine the processes. Think and plan long term - and use data to understand key trends in the business. Work with your team to ensure the business operates efficiently.

This step requires a different kind of research to the previous steps. Your communication activities will be vital here, not just for hiring new team members, but for understanding their development needs as well as what your customers require from you. There will be a lot of data to learn from and utilise, but Home Instead can help walk you through it.

Transforming the business

As a franchise owner, your efforts at this point should be focused on thought leadership and innovation. Embed and review a Corporate Social Responsibility plan to understand and evaluate your franchise’s responsibilities within society and ensure sustainable growth. Constantly reaffirm your business’s culture, and re-enforce your vision and values at every opportunity.

Home Instead will have worked with you by this point to define our joint goals and values, and supported you with your development and growth. And we’re not going anywhere – we will always be there to support you when you need it. But we also know that you’ll want to take ownership of your branch and its future, and that’s exactly what we’ll help you do.
