Behind Every Home Instead Franchise: Meet Michelle Begley, Communications and International Expansion Director

Michelle Begley, Communications and International Expansion Director

The home care sector continues to evolve as people live longer, expectations around later life change and more families look for high-quality care that enables their loved ones to remain independent in the place they know and love.

For prospective franchise owners, this creates significant long-term opportunity, but investing in a growing market is about more than understanding where demand is today. It is also about choosing a brand that understands its market, continues to learn and is thinking about what clients and families will need in the years ahead.

At Home Instead, research, insight and innovation play an important role in building that understanding and helping to shape the future of home care. One of the people helping drive this thinking is Michelle Begley, Communications and International Expansion Director at Home Instead.

Michelle joined Home Instead in 2014 as Head of Marketing and has spent more than a decade helping to grow the brand and raise national awareness of its mission. Today, she brings together strategic communications, commercial insight and an international perspective to help Home Instead understand changing needs, share knowledge across its global network and support continued growth in markets including Ireland.

Understanding the future of home care

An ageing population is one of the defining demographic changes of our time, bringing both new challenges and significant opportunities for the home care sector.

As people live longer, the way they want to experience later life is changing too. Older adults increasingly want greater choice and independence, with high-quality support that enables them to continue living well in their own homes and communities.

Michelle is passionate about ensuring society responds to these changing needs with the care and dignity older adults deserve. She works closely with Home Instead franchise offices to help them understand what older adults want and expect, and what those changes could mean for their local businesses.

Using research and insight to look ahead

Understanding the future of home care starts with understanding the people who will use it. Research and insight help Home Instead explore changing attitudes towards ageing and build a clearer picture of what older adults and their families really want from care and later life.

Through workshops, seminars and strategic advisory work, Michelle helps franchise offices translate this wider thinking into practical conversations around changing client expectations, emerging opportunities within home care and the products and services that could enhance quality of life.

It is about looking beyond immediate demand and helping franchise owners consider how their market could develop over time.

Research and insight also play an important role in innovation. At Home Instead, this starts with the individual, using a deeper understanding of older adults and their families to explore how services and approaches can evolve to help more people live independently at home for longer.

Michelle’s combination of creative thinking and commercial experience helps connect wider market trends with practical strategy, supporting Home Instead to turn insight into opportunities for the future.

Bringing an international perspective to home care

Michelle’s perspective on the future of home care is also shaped by her international role and the knowledge that can be shared across Home Instead’s global network.

In January 2020, Michelle was appointed International Marketing Director, overseeing international marketing strategy and helping to ensure clear communication, trusted partnerships and a strong voice for Home Instead across different regions. Today, as Communications and International Expansion Director, she plays an important role in supporting the brand’s growth across new and existing markets.

This includes Home Instead’s continued expansion in Ireland, where Michelle is helping to build awareness of the franchise opportunity and support plans to grow the network into new territories. As Home Instead expands its footprint across the country, her role helps connect the strength and experience of an internationally established brand with opportunities for franchise owners to build successful, purpose-led businesses in their own communities.

Alongside supporting international growth, Michelle works across different countries to bring franchise owners and marketing teams together, creating opportunities to share ideas, experiences and best practice.

While every care market is different, many countries are responding to similar questions around ageing populations, independence and how people want to receive care. Bringing those perspectives together allows Home Instead to learn from developments across different markets and share valuable knowledge throughout the network.

Experience behind the strategy

Before joining Home Instead, Michelle worked with major UK brands including Pets at Home, Wickes and Mothercare, building experience across consumer marketing, brand management and business development. Alongside an MBA from the Open University, this commercial background has shaped an approach that combines creative thinking with clear communication and a strong understanding of how to bring people together behind a shared strategy.

Since joining Home Instead, Michelle has applied that experience to the care sector, helping to raise national awareness of the Home Instead mission and strengthen the brand as it has grown nationally and internationally.

More than a decade later, her combination of commercial insight, care sector knowledge and international experience is helping Home Instead look beyond immediate market needs and consider how the brand and its franchise network can continue to develop.

Helping franchise owners prepare for future opportunities

Choosing the right franchise opportunity is not simply about looking at the strength of a business model today. For someone making a significant long-term investment, there is also value in knowing that the brand behind their business is continuing to learn and evolve.

Home Instead franchise owners have the freedom to build and lead their own local businesses while benefiting from a wider organisation that invests in understanding changing client expectations, emerging opportunities and developments across different markets.

This wider insight can help franchise owners consider how their services could develop and make informed decisions about the long-term growth of their businesses.

Investing in what comes next

For Michelle, looking ahead is ultimately about ensuring Home Instead continues to meet the changing needs of older adults and their families, while giving franchise owners the insight and support to grow alongside an evolving market.

Reflecting on the importance of research, innovation and continuing to look ahead, Michelle says:

“The needs and expectations of older people and their families  are changing, and research and insight help us understand what that means for the future of home care.

“For me, innovation always has to start with the individual. It’s about listening and using those insights to shape how we develop our products, services and customer experience. Our international network gives us an additional opportunity to share best practice and learn from different markets.

“For franchise owners, that wider knowledge is incredibly valuable. They have the freedom to build their own businesses, with an established network behind them that is continually looking ahead and helping them prepare for future opportunities.”

Part of a wider support network

Michelle’s expertise forms part of the wider support available through Home Instead’s National Office team, bringing together specialists across the core areas needed to build, develop and grow a successful home care business.

Her role adds another important dimension to that support, helping the network understand the changing world around it, connect knowledge and experience from different markets and continue looking ahead at what the future of home care could bring.
