Harmeet Sehmi, Amar Shah and Dawud Ahmad form a trio of business partners who have successfully expanded into the care sector whilst monitoring their existing roles in dentistry, bringing with them a shared passion for people, development and purpose.
With backgrounds in healthcare and a deep-rooted desire to help others, their journey into home care was a natural evolution. Harmeet, for example, had long worked with elderly dental patients and was already experienced in supporting people later in life, extending the care they provided beyond the dentist’s chair.
Their move into franchising began with a search for reputable care organisations. Amar first came across Home Instead, and the group was impressed by the brand’s strong ethos, reputation, and commitment to person-centred care. Just eleven months later, they purchased Home Instead Nottingham as a resale and officially joined the network in November 2021.
Though they initially had no plans to become multi-unit owners, their experience of building a supportive, high-performing team sparked new ambition. Since joining, they’ve grown rapidly, first acquiring a neighbouring territory, Home Instead Burton Upon Trent, before expanding into Central Nottingham & West Bridgford and Derby. Most recently, they’ve purchased Home Instead Ilkeston and Hucknall and Home Instead Swadlincote, Ashby & Melbourne, bringing their total to six territories. They are currently in the process of acquiring two more resales, with plans to continue growing their presence and impact.
Owning and operating six franchise offices across the Midlands has enabled them to scale their reach while maintaining the quality of care they are known for. From cross-office collaboration to plans for centralised roles in areas like marketing and finance, their group structure supports long-term sustainability. Their growth has also created clear pathways for team progression, former schedulers have become Registered Managers or taken on senior leadership roles such as Head of Sales, highlighting their commitment to developing people from within.
Their success as multi-unit operators has been underpinned by the support of Home Instead’s National Office. With six locations to manage and more on the horizon, the partners have leaned on the expert training, established systems and reliable guidance offered by the franchise. This structured support has enabled them to grow sustainably without compromising the personal, people-first culture that defines their business.
Looking ahead, their goal is to reach and support more people in their community, without ever losing the human touch that sets them apart. Whether developing their team or delivering life-changing care, they remain committed to making a difference.
Speaking about their journey, Harmeet said: “We keep asking ourselves why do we enjoy this so much? And it always comes back to the people. We see potential in others, we invest in them, and we grow together. That’s what makes this business so fulfilling. Our business would be nothing without the people within it, and investing in courses, mentoring and watching people unlock their potential is partly our responsibility, and that’s what motivates us.”
