Why should you become a CAREGiver?

When seeking out a job as a CAREGiver, it can be hard to know what to expect. Unfortunately, the standards of care and best working practices can vary wildly from provider to provider, and one provider may expect different things from their CAREGivers than another provider. For example, one caring provider may only provide home help care for assistance with everyday tasks around the house, and another may only offer personal care services, where assistance is provided to wash, bath, and change clothes etc.

However, there are agencies that offer full care services, such as Home Instead Birmingham, so a client can be sure they will get the help and support they need in all areas, which is reassuring should their circumstances change at any time. Becoming a CAREGiver or care assistant and working with a provider that delivers a full range of different care services means that you will learn so much more, and truly see a difference in your personal and professional development.

It is a common misconception that you require certain qualifications to become a CAREGiver, perhaps even some medical experience, and while such qualifications are never a bad thing, they are by no means necessary to pursue a CAREGiver job in Birmingham. A part-time care provider, such as Home Instead, is always looking for kind and compassionate people to be part of their caring team, and prize these qualities above all else. You may have professional qualifications, or you may not, but Home Instead are looking for part-time time senior CAREGivers who are kind, thoughtful, empathetic, and who truly look forward to making a difference in people’s lives in the Birmingham community.

Another misconception about CAREGiver jobs is the nature of the caring work you will be doing. As we have mentioned, Home Instead provide a complete range of care services so that we can better provide help and support to people who need it. However, should you not feel comfortable with certain areas of caring, then this also allows us the flexibility to assign our CAREGivers to other areas they would prefer; which means we still gain vital caring staff, and a CAREGiver can still find great job satisfaction.

What is Involved in Part-time CAREGiver Jobs at Home Instead Birmingham?

First and foremost, a CAREGiver job with Home Instead Birmingham is a unique and challenging experience, and is often described as ‘a labour of love’. Each and every one of our CAREGivers devotes their time and effort in building a client’s trust, establishing strong bonds of friendship, and almost becoming part of the family. All CAREGiver jobs come with their share of physical and emotional challenges, but all of these challenges are far outweighed by the sense of fulfilment you will get from providing senior members of the community with help and support, and helping them find their individuality and contentment.

There are three main areas of care that Home Instead provides to the people and communities of Birmingham. They are personal care, home help services, and companionship services, and we also provide all of these under the umbrella of our specialist Alzheimer’s and Dementia care. However, we don’t believe that any caring situation is black and white, and we always work closely with the individual and their family to develop a care plan that includes any or all of these services in a way that each individual requires. Similarly, we do not believe in going into someone’s home, doing what needs to be done, then moving on to the next client. We ensure each of our visits are always one hour or longer. This allows a CAREGiver to do any specific tasks required of them, but it also means that there is time for a chat, and each client gets to know their CAREGiver well through this companionship. This companionship is an essential part of everything that we do, and should be integrated into all care duties, not held separately from it.

When brought aboard Home Instead as a part-time CAREGiver, each person utilises their natural caring instincts, but is also trained to provide anything the client may need. This can include, preparing and cooking nutritious meals, light housekeeping, taking out the rubbish, caring for pets, helping with bathing, grooming, or dressing, some general shopping, visiting friends and neighbours, and much more. Each individual client has their own individual needs, and Home Instead make sure that these needs are completely catered for, with our CAREGivers going above and beyond what some other care agencies might consider basic care.

Working as a CAREGiver for Home Instead Birmingham comes with a great set of professional benefits, such as competitive pay, flexible hours, mileage allowance, and holiday pay. There are also opportunities to undertake QCF qualifications and specialised city and guilds accredited dementia training. However, the greatest benefit of all is knowing that you will be giving senior members of our community the ability to live happy and independent lives in their own home.
