There are many cafes in Eastbourne, Hailsham and Polegate to choose from if you also want to get out and about into the community. Here are some of our favourite places for a cuppa out with your elderly friends or relatives.

You Raise Me Up Community Café

You Raise Me Up Community Cafe, in Polegate, is the hub of the community bringing together all walks of life to enjoy freshly brewed coffees, a selection of teas, light lunches and delicious home made cakes. The surroundings are bright and airy and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming to all.

Open Mondays to Fridays 9am-3pm, Saturdays 9.30am-3pm, and closed Sundays & Bank Holidays. Every penny of the profits go to help families that have lost a young adult. So by popping in you will be making a difference to the community and someone affected by a loss.

The Tennis Café

The The Tennis Café, Eastbourne, is part of the award-winning Tennis and Fitness community club. As well as the family friendly café that is open to all, they offer tennis and fitness programmes whatever your level. As well as tea there are other drinks, food and cake, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available. Service is always friendly and there is outside seating too. Takeaway also available if you want to combine tea and chat with a short walk around the park.

The café is also dog friendly. It is just one minute walk from the park car park. Open seven days a week, 8.30am to 6pm.

Eats & Treats

Eats & Treats café does a great cuppa, served in a large mug, as well as food and delicious cakes. They also do a mini cream tea! Friendly staff and fast service, it offers lovely surroundings to have a good catch up.

There are a few tables outside, with shade, and the café is dog friendly. Parking?? Open Tuesday-Saturday 9am to 2:30pm, and Sunday 9am to 2pm.

The Gingerbread Cafe

A friendly cafe by the playground in Gildredge Park, The Gingerbread Café serves tea and other drinks, snacks, sandwiches, panini, soup and cakes. Beautiful views over the park make it a very relaxing spot to catch up over a cup of tea, or coffee, with maybe a sweet treat to also help warm the soul.

Dog friendly, lovely outside deck area and blankets available for when it’s chilly. Popular with families but not overrun with children even though next to the playground. Open seven days a week, 9am to 6pm.

More Than Cake

The More Than Cake tea room serves a range of teas coffees, frappes and smoothies as well as home-made meals and cakes. There is plenty of space, so accessible by wheelchair, with a pleasant garden centre shop selling greetings cards, gifts, ornaments, and the usual gardening things.

There is a play area upstairs, but accessible seating downstairs and outside. Open x.

Hyde Corner

Hyde Corner is actually a family-run speciality coffee shop but also serves a range of teas and other drinks. Also serving an interesting and tasty range of sandwiches and delicious traditional and vegan cakes. It has a very welcoming atmosphere and great décor. A great spot to take a break from shopping, or to pause for a good natter over a hot drink.

Comfortable seating, with outside seating available. Music not too loud and lights not too dim. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-4pm, closed Sundays and Mondays.

Café Nikoletta

Cafe Nikoletta is a gem of a café with a lovely little garden with seating out the back. Affordable prices for all items on the menu, including hot drinks and full English breakfast. It is run by a Greek family and has a polite and friendly vibe. Service is fast and the café is clean, many regulars and out of towners give it a real welcoming community feel.

Dog-friendly, outdoor seating in beautiful terraced garden with parasols. Open Friday-Wednesday, 7am-4pm. Closed on Thursdays.
