As we get older, we often become more reliant on others to help maintain our quality of life. For example, in my late 40’s, I already rely on my husband to open glass jars, carry heavy bags of shopping from the car, or even go up the ladders to change a light bulb. I used to do all of these things, but now find that either my physical strength or confidence fails me and instead of struggling on, or doing without, I prefer to ask him to do these things for me.
Since starting Home Instead Senior Care, I feel extremely privileged to have helped so many individuals and their families who have found themselves in a similar situation. When what we once saw as simple tasks, have become a burden to our independence that we need some help with. It has reinforced my viewpoint that with the right support, we can continue to live safe and well in our own homes for as long as we want to. Quite often we may need help for just a few hours a week; for example to put the shopping away, run the hoover around, help make some lovely meals, go to the dentist or help with fiddly packets of tablets.
We are all unique and we all have unique needs, but from my experience, the benefits of quality home care can be summarised as follows:
It’s what we want – The vast majority of us, and not just older people, want to stay in our own homes, in a safe, familiar environment where we feel happy and settled.
Maintains independence – the fear of losing our independence is close to many of us, even the small things, such as deciding when to have a cup of tea – can make a huge difference to someone who has spent their whole life making such decisions for themselves.
Flexible – from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day, home care is responsive to changing needs, which can reduce as well as increase, for example more care may be needed for a few weeks following a hospital visit.
Stability – at Home Instead, our clients see the same Caregiver for a minimum of one hour per visit, so there is consistency, trust and complete understanding of what is needed.
Reduces stress - The emotional cost for both the individual and family can be huge. Knowing that your loved one is safe, respected and being cared for by kind, compassionate caregivers gives you peace of mind. For your loved one knowing that they are not relying on you, gives them a sense of independence and autonomy.
Maintaining a quality of life as we get older is completely possible, and if you would like to find out how Home Instead Senior Care can help you and your family please call 01952 476720 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
