Meet the team

owner, Akroyd,

Owners - Steve & Julie Akroyd

We own and run the East Cheshire office of Home Instead Senior Care, based in Chelford.

We started the business in January 2007 after a life spent in the corporate world.

Steve has a doctorate in Behavioural Psychology, and has spent 30 years working with IT companies, most recently as a consultant to HMG for Central Government departments, until a stroke curtailed his career.

Julie, meantime, has spent a number of years in corporate sales. She is a truly caring person and before setting up the business had experienced being a carer at close hand. Following the death of her mother at an early age, Julie looked after her grandmother for over 26 years. Despite this, she was involved in a number of other activities and held down a full time job and as they say, “ask a busy person! “Julie is always there to help and make things happen.

Steve takes care of the day to day running of the business, to guide and direct overall performance. Julie, on the other hand, takes care of the team in the office and also oversees client services to ensure that our clients are receiving the care they need and that families are happy with the support being provided.

“It is a real privilege for us to do the work we do not only to work together but also to work so closely with people in the local community.”

They live locally along with their cat and when they aren’t  working, they like to go travelling to see other parts of the world, and of course, they can always find time to meet up with friends for a good meal out.

CAREGiver

Our CAREGivers

Our CAREGivers are committed to providing a reliable, compassionate and friendly care service. Their passion and dedication is an inspiration and they arrive at a Client’s home with a smile and a friendly welcome. Many of our caregivers entered the care sector because they want to make a difference to the lives of the elderly; every day they provide personal care, companionship and comfort.

If you are interested in making a real difference to the lives of older people in East Cheshire, please call us on 01625 860992 or go onto our website www.homeinstead.co.uk/eastcheshire and click on the link Contact Us and then click on Employment Enquiry.

Ellie Tomkinson

Elle Tomkinson - Care Manager

Hello, my name is Ellie, I am the Care Manager at Home Instead East Cheshire. I am originally from Cornwall and have lived in the north west for the last 6 years. I am delighted to be working with such a great care company and a wonderful team.

I started my career within the care industry as a CAREGiver. Through passion and dedication, I have achieved many goals by completing both my QCF level 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care, becoming a supervisor and then onto care co-ordinator. I always strive to better myself and it really is a dream come true to work for outstanding organisation who has the same ethos and values that I hold.

I have a real drive and passion for the elderly. I believe that they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I really enjoy getting to know our clients and will often visit them to hear their interesting life stories over a nice cup of tea - in my Hogwarts mug!

When I'm not managing, I enjoy going on holiday to new and interesting places. Long walks with my pooch in the countryside and meeting up with friends.

administration, office, clerical, reception

Teryl Knowles - Office Administrator

Hello, my name is Teryl and I am the Office Administrator.  Born in Macclesfield, I live locally with my family in Ollerton.

After working in banking, sales and youth work I am delighted to be working with such a great care company.

Having first hand experience of looking after an elderly, disabled parent, I appreciate the wonderful service Home Instead provides.

When not working I enjoy anything to do with horses and walking our Jack Russell Terrier, Hector.

Care Manager

Kinga Stepien-Bialy, Registered Care Manager

Hello, I am the Registered Care Manager at Home Instead East Cheshire. I live in Macclesfield and I am delighted to be working with such a great care company and a wonderful team.

I have experience of care, both in a professional capacity and also in my personal life. I gained my first experience of care when looking after my grandmother; I helped with her daily living care and saw how being able to stay in her home improved her quality of life and what a difference good quality care can make.

It is sometimes forgotten that older people have a wealth of knowledge and interesting experiences and stories to share. In fact, whilst out on a service call, I was able to share my love of art in a long discussion with one of our 98 year old clients, leaving my colleagues wondering where I had got to!

I live by the ethos of treating others how you would wish to be treatedyourself. This motto is extremely important within the care sector, because you can then guarantee that you are providing someone with only the best care, combined with dignity and respect.

When I’m not working, I am passionate about classical music, I enjoy walking locally and in Derbyshire and Wales; as mentioned I also love art (although I don’t paint), my favourite artist is Salvador Dali.

Out of office hours, I enjoy exploring new places and spending time with my family and friends.
