Free dementia workshops for family carers and people in the local community
We offer free workshops for people in the local community who are caring for friends or family with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias.
Other people who have benefited from our previous workshops have been local business owners, community groups, a dentist, chiropodists, district nurses, a vicar, a post office worker and a host of other people who wanted to learn more about dementia or have contact with people with dementia on a regular basis.
We look at what dementia is and how it is diagnosed, the importance of creating a life history memory book and how to use it with a person with dementia. We offer tips and techniques to help understand and manage some of the behaviours your loved one might be displaying and how to effectively communicate with and some activities you may find beneficial to help with engagement.
Please ring Annette on 0191 374 4041 to learn more or to find out when our next workshop will be.
Senior Fraud Protection
As part of our commitment to changing the face of ageing, we are offering 'Be Scam Aware' sessions to help older people and their families identify some of the scams that are targeted towards older people and ways to reduce the risk of being scammed and to keep safe.
We know from the personal experience of our clients that when an older person is the victim of a scam it has a profound psychological impact on them and can cause feelings of not knowing who to trust.
At our free sessions (about 45 mins) we look at what types of scams older people may become victim of, how to keep themselves safe and to become more aware of how scams are carried out. We also give each person our 'toolkit' which has topics on:
Financial abuse tactics, reasons why older people are targets and the impact of crime on older people.
We also provide checklists that can be used to keep you and your family safe, including the criminal target scale, a scam-proofing checklist, scam reminders and what to do if you have been scammed.
Call Paula on 0191 374 4041 to find out when our next session will be.
Both professional and caring. My father thought of his carers as friends, because of the excellent interaction, the carers made his life more interesting than it would have been, confined to his home as he was.Mrs Marriott (permission to use name given)
