The Mayor of Colchester, Councillor Helen Chuah, praised the services of new at-home care company, Home Instead, as she officially opened the company’s new office at The North Colchester Business Centre last Friday, 4th November.
The Mayor was joined at the event by the Mayor’s escort, Councillor Mike Hogg, clients of Home Instead and their families plus representatives from local community organisations including Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, The Oddfellows, Colne Housing Trust, Colchester Carers Centre, The Ogilvie Charities, Health in Mind and CattenCollege amongst others.
Helen commented on the holistic service offered by Home Instead which focuses, not just on the needs of their clients, but on those of their families too.
Home Instead was set up in May this year byDedhamresident, Julie Price. The company specialises in caring for elderly people in their own homes, allowing them to live independently for longer than would otherwise be possible.
Many of Home Instead’s clients enjoyed a day out at the opening event, brought along by their ever-enthusiastic caregivers. Commenting on the day, Julie said, “It was a pleasure to see so many of our contacts in the local community at the opening event and to see so many of our clients having a great day out where they were able to sit and chat to all different sorts of people, including the Mayor.”
Julie decided to set up Home Instead having cared for her mother. Commenting she said, “I didn’t realise how isolated and lonely you can feel trying to understand what help and support is available and I’m hoping that some of my knowledge will benefit others. When a loved one falls ill and needs help they are so vulnerable, and so are their families and I know we can help.”
Home Instead services include personal care such as assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and medications; home help covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping, meal preparation and household duties plus companionship services that can involve everything from escorting clients to appointments through to simple conversation and good company.
