Outstanding Care in West Lancashire and Chorley

Welcome to Home Instead West Lancashire & Chorley, our office is owned and operated locally by Robert and Gail Godson, two hard working individuals, with excellent people skills, who have the local vision, desire and commitment to deliver a high quality care service to adults and older people in their local community.

Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley is one of the first three adult social care services in England to be judged Outstanding under the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) new ‘Ofsted style’ approach to inspection and regulation.

Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley, provides high quality care services to adults and older people in their own homes.

Gail trained as a nurse and went on to gain 30 years’ experience in the health care service while husband Robert previously worked for the Government modernising public services.

Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley based in Ormskirk , opened in 2012, as part ofnational home care provider Home Instead UK, whose ethos centres around delivering the highest quality of care together with companionship. At Home Instead, care visits last a minimum of one hour, to give time to deliver quality care and support to clients and give time for clients and CAREGivers to build lasting relationships.

Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley office has received the highest rating possible from the CQC under its new system, which recognises the critical importance of compliance and credits overall quality of care service.

Under the CQC’s new programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring,responsive and well led and graded either Outstanding, Good, Requires improvement or Inadequate.

As part ofthe new approach, the CQC scrutinised compliance with legal requirements and regulations as well as contacting clients and their families,  CAREGivers and external care professionals in the local community.

Delighted with the rating, Home Instead Director Gail Godson, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have received one of the first three Outstanding ratings from the CQC and to bring home a first in the North of England too. Receiving the highest rating possible reflects our commitment to delivering the quality of care service that we believe in. We could not deliver that excellence of care across West Lancashire and Chorley without our committed team of wonderful CAREGivers and I would like to dedicate this rating of ‘Outstanding’ to each and every one of them, they are our superheroes.”

CQC highlights:

•        Inspectors found that care was planned in a way that not only took account of people’s health and physical needs, but also their social and emotional needs, such as isolation or loss of independence.

•        The minimum care visit was for one hour, allowing staff to spend time with people in their care, build up a relationship and fully understand the things that were important to them.

•        Inspectors praised the support provided to staff through a robust induction and ongoing training, and saw that training programmes were adapted to meet the needs of people using the service as and when these changed.

Gail commented further: “Our Outstanding rating from the CQC recognises our passion for delivering excellent care in West Lancashire and Chorley. But a comment from one of our clients, which is featured in the report summarises that best. Our client said: “The service is beyond our expectations. There are two sides to it – the service they provide and the wrapper they put around it. They don’t just care, they take responsibility for everything! We found other services lack this holistic approach. Home Instead are developing a lovely service.”

Chief Inspector of Adult Social Careat the Care Quality Commission, Andrea Sutcliffe, said: “I am tremendously pleased to be able to congratulate our very first Outstanding adult social care services in England.

 “Each one has demonstrated that excellent careis being provided by dedicated and committed staff who are passionate about making a difference for the people they support.

 “The launch of our new approach to inspecting and rating services last October set out clear and important criteria on how providers can demonstrate they are delivering good or better care and effectively tackling any problems.

 “Through performance ratings, we will continue to celebrate the very best services and shine a spotlight on those providers that fail to do the right thing to help people when it comes to choosing care.

 “Everyone using adult social care services deserves to experience really great care. I am determined that we use regulation to drive forward rapid improvement and help make the ‘Mum Test’ real.”
