Each quarter Home Instead nominates one of its highly-valued CAREgivers to receive a special Home Instead Award. This award recognises those CAREGivers who show the true spirit of Home Instead by providing care in a very personalised way, and who go the extra mile to ensure the best possible quality of life for those we support at home.
We are proud to announce the winner of this award for the first quarter of 2014 is Carl Reece. Carl received the award for his compassion, his flexibility and his creativity in finding new ways for our clients to enjoy doing activities which they had previously been unable to do without his support. Carl continuously adapts his approach by thinking ‘outside of the box’ so that daily living activities can be completed by clients and be a really positive experience!
Here is Carl’s Story…
“My Name is Carl and I have been working for Home Instead for 17 months. Last month I was nominated for and received the CAREGiver of the Quarter Award, and I just wanted to share a few personal thoughts with you.
I did have some anxieties about re-joining the care sector as I had worked as a health care assistant before I joined Home Instead but that was many years ago. Many of the experiences that I had during my time working as a health care assistant were not positive, particularly the attitudes I found towards older people who were unable to communicate their own personal needs and feelings.
I have a naturally caring and positive outlook towards life and I really enjoy bringing this positivity into the lives of the clients I care for, which I was unable to do before in my previous employment. I really enjoy meeting my new clients and building relationships with them - they all have really interesting life stories to tell. It is wonderful that we are able to develop our relationship from being a stranger on introduction, to developing relationships as a CAREGiver and then growing into a friendship.
Being able to make such a difference to the quality of my clients’ lives really makes my day. Sometimes even very small things can make a very big difference, and it is rewarding when the lives of our clients are enriched by our interaction. I personally gain a lot of satisfaction and find it an absolute privilege to be part of their life’s journey”.
