Twiddle Muffs and Prop Box to Aid Dementia Patients
As part of our commitment to enhance the lives of all our Home Instead Charnwood clients and with particular focus on our Dementia clients in Charnwood, Leicester we are aiming to create an ‘Aladdin’s Chest’ of aids and props known to support those with Dementia.
This month our star CAREGiver Jayne Ward has been twiddling the knitting needles, wool and buttons to create a Home Instead ‘Twiddle Muff’. A twiddle muff provides a wonderful source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation – whilst keeping hands snug at the same time! People with dementia often have restless hands and this specially created tool can support them within their environment and aid both relaxation and comfort.
Home Instead Charnwood, Leicester are looking to open a Dementia Café in a few months’ time and hope to have a ‘chest’ full of props and ideas. These props will also do the rounds and be sent out to our Dementia clients used a bit like a library each week to further support and stimulate their memories and condition.
If you would like to support the twiddle muff brigade we have an array of wool, buttons and ribbons in the office you can use…or if you have any other ideas or would like to be a part of the next creation, light boxes, memory books, art therapy, doll therapy or many more ideas then please get in touch. Equally if you know someone suffering with dementia and would like to borrow some of our library of props please get in touch:
