Live-in Care in Basingstoke

The time may come when care visits are not enough and you need someone with you, or close by, throughout the day and night.  However, residential care is not the only option - live-in care can allow you to benefit from all the advantages of having someone attending to your needs or close-by for support if required, all day, whilst retaining all the home comforts and familiar routines that you are used to.

What is Live-in Care?

With Home Instead live-in care, our Care Professional will live with you and be there to provide the support you need when you need it, without compromising your independence or changing your way of life.

The live-in carer will be available to you to provide a familiar face and company, to help around the house and prepare your meals, to take you out, and to assist you as necessary with your personal care.

Who is Live-in Care For?

Live-in care can be the ideal solution for anyone who needs non-nursing care which is more than can be provided by visiting caregivers.  Your live-in Care Professional can help you with your personal care, can help to manage your home, can help with the shopping, meal preparation and general nutritional support, can take you out, and can provide companionship, social interaction and mental stimulation.  Live-in care can be particularly beneficial for those living with dementia, by helping with those things which are no longer so straightforward and helping to keep the client safe.

Why Home Instead?

Home Instead’s live-in care service is “fully managed”, meaning that the live-in caregivers are fully trained, employed and managed by us.  We will have carefully assessed your caregiver prior to introducing him/her to you, and once they start with you we will keep in close touch to ensure that the relationship is everything that you would expect from someone staying in your home.  This is all very similar to our visiting care service.

Our live-in service is fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission in the same way as our visiting service is.

It is vital to the success of your live-in care support that you and your carer get on well, and that will be our paramount concern. Our close management and supervision of the live-in care service is done from our Basingstoke office by local people – so it is easy to pop in in the case of any difficulties or concerns.

Because we also do hourly visiting care, we can provide a full “wrap-around” service if necessary to cover emergencies, to cover the live-in carer’s breaks, to provide overnight care, or to provide a second caregiver where additional support is required for particular tasks.

Our Live-In Care Professionals

We recruit in the UK and will do our utmost to ensure a good match with the client.  We will present the proposed live-in caregiver to you and your family, and if possible set up a virtual meeting, in advance of committing that person to you, and will introduce them fully in person at the start of the care package. If they  prove unsuitable or go off sick we will liaise with you and make alternative arrangements, including emergency provisions.

As with hourly care, our service is relationship-led, and of course the success of the relationship between client and carer is all the more important with live-in care. We therefore maintain very close ongoing and regular contact with both the care professional and the client in order to ensure that the relationship is working out well, and the client feels fully supported, by someone whom he/she (and the family) can relate to. Regular liaison with the client and/or family could include, for example, liaison using “WhatsApp”.

Our live-in carers would normally work on a rota of, eg, two caregivers alternating every 2-4 weeks. They would work for say 8 hours per day, take two hours off and be available for any emergencies etc for the rest of the time.
