Jenny has done a fantastic job of training nearly all of our CAREGiver's in looking after someone with Parkinson's and we only have a few left to go. This is a great achievement and has enabled our office to have Parkinson’s UK trained CAREGivers to look after our clients with a greater understanding and expertise in enabling our clients to live well, their way

Home Instead and United in Kind sending smiles!

During the COVID 19 pandemic it has highlighted to everyone in society how loneliness for many, especially those of the older generation is a widespread issue. Our CAREGivers play a big part in helping to alleviate some of the loneliness experienced with their minimum hour visits to our clients. They are able to spend that little extra time having an all important chat as well as the many other tasks they carry out. Jo Morrison from the office has been delighted to have worked with Ali Perrott from the organisation ‘United in Kind’ for the Basildon District who have run a ‘Send a Smile’ campaign. The local community have sent cards, pictures and poems to be passed on to help brighten someone’s day. Ali kindly brought some along to our office last week so we could pass on to yourselves. So along with this newsletter please find attached one of those responses and we shall send others with later newsletters. If any of our clients or families want to do a little letter or a reply note, a picture or even try their hand at a poem themselves we would love to see it and it can be sent in with your CAREGiver. To find out more about United in Kind please visit their website www.unitedinkind.org.uk

Basildon office welcome the Mayor

A Home Instead welcome to the Mayor

Home Instead Basildon welcomed the Mayor of Basildon Borough, Cllr David Burton-Sampson, to the office earlier this week to discuss the ‘unseen, unheard’ campaign and discuss ways to reduce social isolation. It was a very informative visit and we were able to let the Mayor know more about our services and also how much the additional time we spend at our hour minimum visits is so important to us and our clients for companionship. We welcome visitors to our office at any time and were honoured he was able to take time out of his busy schedule to come and see us.

Be A Santa to a Senior donations from DCK Group

Home Instead Basildon were kindly contacted by Grace Crekendon and Ellie Warren from local company DCK Group who's staff kindly wanted to donate some gift boxes of presents for our Be A Santa to a Senior campaign this year and we were happy to pass on to those in the community that were extremely happy to receive a gift to open. DCK staff were very generous and presents opened included tinned foods, socks, gloves, chocolates, biscuits, costume jewellry and various other items within their boxes that had been carefully thought out for the female and male recipients. Home Instead Basildon want to thank DCK for their kind donations on behalf of those that opened their gifts and for the hand written cards fromthe families/individuals that contributed and wrapped their lovely presents.

MP backs Home Instead's Recruitment Campaign

Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois recently lent his support to a special event at the Houses of Parliament designed to encourage more people to work in the care industry. The event was hosted by the Minister for the Care Industry, Caroline Dineage MP and was supported by a number of Members of Parliament and a group of experienced workers in the care sector. Mark invited Helen Gilbert our recruitment officer to attend the event. Mark was also supporting Home Insteads own campaign #YouCanCare as we are within his consituency and cover much of the South Essex area. Mark acknowledged our wider drive to persuade more people to become professional CAREGivers. Mark said 'Many of us know an elderly friend or relative who relies on a carer as part of their daily lives and the industry is always looking out for new people to work in this very worthwhile field. Home Instead in Wickford do very good work in this area of public service, therefore I was pleased to invite Helen to join the Minister, in promoting the important recruitment drive.' We wish to thank Mark Francois MP and Caroline Dineage MP for their support.

Essex inter office Networking Event

Essex owners and staff joined up on Wednesday 27th March to promote Home Instead services at a networking business event held at Chelmsford City race course. It was a great day with some good opportunity to raise awareness of our services for clients, let people know of our recruitment campaign to encourage more people to come and join us as CAREGivers, and also pass on details of our community workshops, such as the free Dementia workshop. It also gave everyone a chance to catch up on the Essex news and share some best practice and knowledge. A great day all round and thankyou to Julie from the Chelmsford office for organising! Jo Morrison and Steve Willoughby are pictured as they were running a Dementia workshop at Basildon hospital the following day.
