WELCOME TO OUR SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the latest issue of Older Wiser Together (OWT).

The aim of OWT is to become a trusted and valued part of our community, particularly for those aged 50 or over who may be looking for new opportunities, social events, and challenges, as well as tips for independent living. We cover from Bude, Launceston, Callington, Holsworthy, Okehampton, Tavistock, Saltash and Torpoint.  We hope you’ll find useful information on initiatives and activities in your area.

We have had a busy Summer and start to the September season.  We were delighted to once again be awarded Top 20 in the South-West by thehomecare.co.uk. This is the fourth year in a row!  We had a lovely day with the trishaw down at Burrator Arboretum and celebrated a donation to Okey Memory Cafe from Home Instead Charities.

Do you have lots of questions about care and not sure where to turn? Are you aware of Powers of Attorney?  Our Director, Lynn Roddy and Raegan Leather of Woollcombe Yonge Solicitors will be available to answer any questions at  Tavistock Area Support Services – TASS Friday 6th October from 11am to 1pm (and then every first Friday of the month)

We always welcome feedback, constructive criticism, and submissions for OWT, particularly from those of you with professional or charitable links to our community. Do get in touch if you have something you’d like to share. Please feel free to forward this Newsletter to family, friends, and colleagues.

Top 20 Again!

We are delighted to receive a prestigious award by a national reviews website, having been named one of the top 20 home care companies in the South West of England. This is the 4th consecutive time we have won this award.

The award is based on the home care company’s reviews on homecare.co.uk, the UK’s top home care reviews site dubbed by many as the ‘TripAdvisor for home care’.  We continue to have a review score of 10/10.

BBC Radio Devon

Our Director, Lynn, has a regular slot on BBC Radio Devon to talk about Tavistock Dementia Alliance and initiatives to help those with dementia and their loved ones.  Great supporter David “Fitz” Fitzgerald gives Lynn the opportunity to chat about dementia care in general and how we can all take a small step to raise awareness of the condition or help someone in need.  Could you offer some support to a neighbour or friend?  Just being at the end of the phone can be a help to some.

Tavistock Tennis Club Tennis-a-Thon for Dementia UK

Home Instead is braving the heat to get involved with Tavistock Tennis Club’s Tennis-a-Thon to help raise money for Dementia UK.  This amazing charity helps to provide specialist dementia Admiral Nurses around the UK.  Tavistock is very lucky to have one Admiral Nurse but she is a very busy lady.  We would love to see more Admiral Nurses out in our community.  We donated £150 to this fantastic charity as part of the tennis-a-thon.  We will report more on the fundraising total!

We spoke to lots of people throughout the day, some who we very aware of the great quality care that we deliver.  As always our robo cat drew lots of attention as folk asked how this was received by clients. It is so nice to get out in our community and raise the awareness of great care in the community.
