WELCOME TO OUR MARCH 2024 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the latest issue of Older Wiser Together (OWT)

The aim of OWT is to become a trusted and valued part of our community, particularly for those aged 50 or over who may be looking for new opportunities, social events, and challenges, as well as tips for independent living. We cover from Bude, Launceston, Callington, Holsworthy, Okehampton, Tavistock, Saltash and Torpoint.  We hope you’ll find useful information on initiatives and activities in your area.

Our Director Lynn was ambushed by representatives from Devon Integrated Social Care Alliance earlier in the month when she was presented with an award.  Lynn was presented with an Acknowledgement award for services to dementia in Devon.  See the photo and report below.

Okey Memory Cafe turned one this month and everybody came together for some party food.  Read more below.

We continue our theme of aiming to simplify and explain how care at home works.  Some families may begin with care by the hour for their loved one and then move a step further and have a Care Professional move in with them.  We explain how this works later.

We always welcome feedback, constructive criticism, and submissions for OWT, particularly from those of you with professional or charitable links to our community. Do get in touch if you have something you’d like to share. Please feel free to forward this Newsletter to family, friends, and colleague

Best wishes,

The Older Wiser Together Team.

Devon AWARD

Pictured is our Director Lynn and John Powell from Devon Integrated Social Care Alliance who presented Lynn with an award for services to dementia in Devon.  This was one of three awards for the year and special messages were recorded by Councillor John McInnes and Ian Hobbs of Devon County Council to thank the recipients for their fantastic work.  The flowers were also stunning!

Okey Memory Cafe Turns One!

Okey Memory Cafe turned one this month! It is amazing to think of what has been achieved in such a short time with the fun, laughter and stimulating activities which have been on offer.  A solid partnership between Community Links, Home Instead and Okehampton Community Recreation Association has made this happen.

Okey Memory Cafe meets every Tuesday afternoon between 1 and 3pm at The Pavilion in the Park.
