Raising money for St Luke’s is a walk in the park for Caregivers

Two Caregivers from Sheffield at-home care company, Home Instead, have raised £500 on behalf of their client Mrs Levitt for St Luke’s Hospice on a five kilometre walk for charity.

Caregivers Amy Stanforth and Lyndsay Matthewson put their best feet forward in the Starlight Walk on May 21st for St Luke’s; the Sheffield Hospice which gives respite care to one of the girls’ clients - cancer patient Sylvia Levitt from Sheffield.

Sylvia Levitt commented: “St Luke’s is not funded by the NHS so relies heavily on community support and charity events such as the Starlight Walk. Everyone who has been touched by St Luke’s wants to give something back and the only way I could do this was to ask my Caregivers Amy and Lyndsey if they would take part in the walk on my behalf and they kindly agreed. I also called Home Instead to let them know our plans and they put a piece in the newsletter to drum up yet more support for our cause. I wish to thank the whole Home Instead team for supporting me and of course Lyndsey and Amy for doing such a sterling job and raising such a fantastic amount for this wonderful cause.”

The evening event was attended by both young and old and the route took around two hours to complete. With the evening proving to be a great success, it is predicted that overall, the walk will have helped to raise over £50,000 for the hospice.

Lyndsey and Amy commented: “It was an honour to take part in the Starlight walk and we really enjoyed the experience. We were honoured to be asked by Mrs Levitt to do this walk on her behalf as we have seen first hand, the fantastic work that St Luke’s Hospice does in the area.”

The hospice celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and needs to raise more than £4 million to continue helping people with incurable illnesses.
