Working the Brain for Wellbeing

Jacky Ayres from The Alzheimer’s Society ran a wonderfully varied taster session for our November Penarth Memory Café.

Jacky Ayres from The Alzheimer’s Society ran a wonderfully varied taster session for our November Penarth Memory Café.

All the activities worked the brain in different ways, which is so important when someone has a dementia diagnosis.

We started with Christmas musical bingo and we celebrated anyone who could name the artist singing the various songs as we went along

We then had a percussion session using bucket drums and bells.

The group loved this as they said they felt as if they were in a band.

Jacky skilfully directed the different sections of the group to play at the appropriate times, so we all felt the joy of actually making music.

We ended the session with a Christmas decoration competition.

We asked the group to decorate templates and Jacky was our guest judge.

The winning design was created by Pam, pictured with our Home Instead Care Bear and the “Winners” trophy.

We look forward to hanging their art work on our wooden tree next session, to be donated to Trinity Church.
