Celebrate Home Instead Norwich’s Be a Santa to a Senior campaign and see how local volunteers, community groups, & Care Professionals helped bring festive joy to older adults.

Christmas is a time of warmth and celebration, but for many older adults, it can also be a season when loneliness feels heavier. Some people in our community may spend the festive period with limited contact from family or friends.
That’s why Home Instead Norwich runs its annual Be a Santa to a Senior campaign – a chance to bring comfort, connection, and festive cheer to older adults across the area.
This year’s campaign has been filled with generosity, creativity, and community spirit, with local residents, volunteers, and partners helping to make Christmas brighter for those who may otherwise feel forgotten.

Our team received a fantastic response from shoppers at Morrisons Old Catton, where Jody and Verity spent two festive days collecting donations, dressed as The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who, much to the delight of customers. Their presence sparked conversations, smiles, and a steady stream of thoughtful contributions.
We were also touched by the incredible generosity of the Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers, who donated a huge collection of handmade items. Their blankets, cushion covers, scarves, gloves, and tea cosies will offer warmth and comfort to older adults throughout the winter months.
These acts of kindness show just how much the Norwich community cares.

A simple gift can have a powerful impact. It can:
It’s not about the size or cost of the gift; it’s about showing someone that they are valued and remembered.

The Home Instead Norwich office came alive during our Christmas wrapping day, where volunteers dropped in throughout the day to help prepare the gifts. Care Professionals Debbie and Wendy joined us, along with Debbie’s husband, who kindly rolled up his sleeves to help wrap presents.
We were also delighted to welcome volunteers from local solicitors Clapham and Collinge, as well as family members and friends who wanted to support the cause. The room was filled with cheerful music, mince pies, hot chocolate, and warm conversation – and Debbie even brought homemade cakes to share.
It was a wonderful reminder of how small acts of kindness can bring people together.

Thanks to the generosity of the community and the hard work of our volunteers, we are able to deliver meaningful, comforting gifts to older adults across Norwich this Christmas. Each parcel is carefully matched and prepared to help ensure it reaches someone who may otherwise receive nothing over the festive season.
These moments of connection help remind someone that their community cares and that they are not alone.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, knitted, wrapped, baked, or simply helped spread the word: thank you. Your kindness has made this year’s Be a Santa to a Senior campaign a heart-warming success. Your support means more than you know.
