Knowledge about dementia and awareness of the disease are essential in creating dementia-friendly environments. As the general population now has more over 65s than children being born for the first time in history, it’s important to create more supportive, understanding and inclusive settings for individuals with dementia, their carers and their loved ones.

At Home Instead Gloucester and The Forest of Dean, we run free community Dementia Awareness workshops. These sessions are available for anyone in the local community to book for their peers, groups or employees to develop their knowledge of dementia. A greater understanding of dementia greatly reduces stigma around the disease and helps to equip individuals with practical skills to support those affected by dementia in their families, workplaces or in the community.

What is a community Dementia Awareness workshop?

These workshops are designed to educate members of the local community about dementia, reduce stigma and equip attendees with practical tools to support those affected by dementia. Each workshop is one-hour long with a Q&A opportunity to speak to our dementia experts and ask any questions.

At the end of each workshop, the attendees receive a certificate of completion and a fact sheet about dementia, its symptoms and the importance of early diagnosis.
