Chris Carter, owner of Home Instead Norwich, has won an England Director of the Year Award from the Institute of Directors (IoD), which hosts an annual ceremony recognising the finest leadership talent across all sectors and celebrates directors that seek to build a better world through business.
Winning the People Director of the Year Award, Chris was credited for empowering his team to progress in their careers and creating an inclusive environment. It was judged according to the IoD’s rigorous standards for good corporate governance, ethical leadership, and professional excellence. Chris was shortlisted alongside directors from other high-profile companies, including HSBC Life and Blue Sky HR Consultancy.
With learning and development plans overseen by Chris, Home Instead Norwich’s care professionals and members of the management team are on a clear career pathway that offers ongoing opportunities to undertake training and develop new skills and experience. Chris’s strong leadership enables his team to support older people in their own homes with a range of needs and deliver quality care.
Throughout his 16 years of running Home Instead Norwich, Chris has countless success stories illustrating his leadership strength, not least a care professional who joined Home Instead and at first didn’t feel capable of supporting a challenging client with dementia. Fast forward a few years, and she won a national dementia award for the difference she made to this person’s life.
Chris Carter says: “What an honour to win this award! I’m proud of the many people who have been part of my team over the years. I’ve had the chance to support their professional growth, and that along with their dedication and hard work has helped them achieve things they never thought possible when starting their journeys.
“I’d like to thank my team who are so committed to making a positive difference in the lives of their colleagues, clients and the local community. I’d also like to thank the coaches and mentors who have helped me grow so much over the years, and my wife who is always patient, encouraging and supportive.”
As a proud local businessman, Chris plays an active role in the community, having delivered workshops highlighting how we can be more accommodating of older people. His other award wins include a ‘Positive Impact in the Community’ award at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards.
