Outstanding Care & Opportunities in 2024

Making a Success of Social Care Recruitment in Exeter & East Devon

At Home Instead Exeter & East Devon, care careers are viewed very differently.

The recruitment of exceptional team members remains a priority for our Company. At the beginning of 2023, Homecare Association Chair, Jane Townson OBE, appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain where she spoke in response to a report commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury and York.

The ‘Care & Support Reimagined’ study focussed on the motivation of carers and also their needs. Jane spoke brilliantly about the absolute value of our care colleagues, mentioning the need for quality training, job security, time, investment, appropriate pay and many more elements – all of which we are proud to say we at Home Instead Exeter & East Devon value and embrace, too. The findings remain relevant, and the key points continue to be our priority.

For our part, we have truly championed the role of Care Professional from the outset, ensuring that team members are equipped to provide the highest standard of care to their clients, and to reap the rewards of what is a wonderful role, in return. Year on year, word regarding our dramatically different approach, is spreading fast…

In the last year, applications to join our team have grown significantly, as candidates seek to benefit from fully funded and award-winning introductory training and ongoing opportunities via our successful Career Pathways scheme. They look to be part of a talented and welcoming team that wants colleagues to succeed, demonstrated by the Age-Friendly Employer Pledge, Disability Committed status and Menopause Supporter initiatives that our office champions.

Our Marketing Manager, Sharon Coombes, comments:

“Our Clients have a variety of interests, backgrounds and circumstances. So, for us, that means that we very much look to create a matching team of equally diverse Care Professionals. That way, we increase the chance of ‘care’ being a rewarding experience for both parties.”

“Demand for our Outstanding services is at an all-time high, as the community have become increasingly determined to identify real CQC quality care from the vast quantity of options available. We are seeing the same approach being taken by our recruitment candidates and given our 5 Star Employer in Care status and range of workplace wellbeing initiatives, it makes sense that we are proving to be increasingly popular. Our advice remains to read, research and choose your care employer wisely.”

With feedback being overwhelmingly positive, our team have pledged to continue to champion the opportunities available, and to raise the standard of both care, and care careers, across the local social care sector. Efforts recognised by our 5 Star Employer in Care status and Exmouth Business Employer of the Year Award for 2023.

With every applicant, and every new recruit that takes the curious and sometimes tentative step to apply to us, we are building on a far more positive and robust reputation, and reality, for our rewarding sector.
