At Home Instead Epping Forest, there are many ways we extend our hand to support those who are living with dementia, and we believe in actively participating in events that increase awareness and support for those in the community.
That’s why during Dementia Action Week, we attended a special information event at St. John’s Church, which featured local organisations providing resources, support services, and educational materials. The event included interactive workshops, expert talks on the latest dementia research and care strategies, and opportunities for families and caregivers to connect.
The event, held in collaboration with the Epping Forest Dementia Friendly Community Group, featured informative stalls, offering valuable advice and resources to attendees. We had our own stall, and our Community Relationship Manager, Maureen, was engaging with attendees, offering guidance and providing information about our specialised dementia care services, and the importance of creating a supportive home environment.
One highlight was the ‘Singing for the Brain’ session, expertly led by the Alzheimer’s Society, which explored the many ways in which music and nostalgia can support memory recall and wellbeing. Participants also had the opportunity to experience a taster chair exercise and mobility session, highlighting the importance of physical activity in maintaining health and well-being.
The Alzheimer’s Society estimates that 982,000 people in the UK currently live with dementia, and this number is expected to significantly increase. This highlights the pressing need for us to come together and create a dementia-friendly society, and it was encouraging to see members of our community coming together, sharing experiences, and gaining insights into the lives of those living with dementia.
