Following a fall mum went from fully independent to needing care twice a day. I contacted a number of agencies and was initially most impressed with the immediate response from Home Instead (Dartford). They visited mum to discuss her needs and likes. Care started a couple of days later. I have to say that mum was a little concerned before the service started, as she had never needed care before. However, soon after mum rang me to say what a wonderful set of carers were looking after her. We are now a few months in and Mum is very happy as am I. I will say that this service was set up just before the Covid-19 situation, and I have been very impressed with the way the carers have coped with and worked through at this difficult time. The management team have also been great in keeping me informed and letting me know when an issue arises along with their solutions where appropriate. ’’

How to age well

Growing old can bring challenges, both for the person who’s ageing and for their family. It can be frustrating for our loved ones because they can’t do everything they used to and feel like they’re losing their independence. At the same time, it might be worrying for their family as they might not be able to be there whenever their loved ones need them.

Jane's CAREGiver Diary: Will Hay & Arthur Lucan

I was born in 1972, so when I was growing up, until I was about 11, when Video Cassette Recorders became more popular (and more affordable), if you were watching the telly, you had a choice of whatever was showing at the time on the three (later four, when Channel 4 started in 1982) channels available. I very often, because of this found myself watching old films, mainly on BBC2. I discovered all the amazing Hollywood musicals, and the stars of them like Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and so many others, and I am so grateful for that.

Jane’s Blog -I’m Henry VIII, I am!

On 28th June 1491, Elizabeth of York, the Queen of King Henry VII, first Tudor monarch, gave birth to her third child, and second son – Henry Tudor. Henry would become the second Tudor king, and arguably, England’s most famous monarch. As today is his 530th birthday, I thought I would write a little about him today, along with local(ish) places with links to him that you might like to visit.
