Following the Home Instead 'Recipes to Remember' competition, three winning recipes were chosen as the prizewinners by judges Amanda Hamer of Home Instead and Carol Moratiel of Lucia's Cafe in Cirencester.

The competition was organised to celebrate Older People's Day and aimed to encourage the sharing of skills between the generations.

The main criteria for the competition were that the cakes should be delicious and easy to make. Judges Amanda and Carol had a difficult job sifting through all the entries to create a shortlist of six. These were then put to the taste test and eventually the final three winners were selected.

First prize went to Mrs A Humphreys for her Cinnamon Cake which proved simple to make and was delicious served with a cup of tea (and equally tasty with custard)! She won a £20.00 voucher for lunch at Lucia's.

Joint runner-up prizes of £10.00 vouchers were also given to Mrs Pegler and Mrs R Franklin. Mrs Pegler's Ginger Parkin was selected for its lovely moist texture and although Mrs Franklin's Bread Pudding wasn't strictly speaking a cake, the judges felt it was too good to miss out on a prize!

Each of the prize winning recipes have been added to the Home Instead Caregiver's Recipe Book. This is used by Caregivers who visit Home Instead clients in their own homes to provide care and companionship. It provides both basic recipes and a little extra inspiration whenever needed!
