Home Instead Team raises over £200 to help defeat dementia

CAREGivers and office staff from the Home Instead Senior care team enjoyed a lovely Sunday walk around Cheltenham’s largest ornamental park recently and raised over £200 to help in the battle against dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society 2017 Memory Walk took place in the beautiful setting of Pittville Park which is home to the grade I listed Pump Rooms. Built in 1825, the Pump Rooms were the source of the country’s only alkaline spa water and provided a stunning backdrop for the start and finish of this annually-organised fund-raising walk.

The Home Instead team were amongst over 110,000 people who have come together around the UK this year, united in their aim to help the Alzheimer’s Society to raise £9 million to support those whose lives are affected by Dementia.

Each year Memory Walks are organised to enable people of all ages and abilities to take part and at Cheltenham there was a choice of a 6.5km or 3km route, taking in woodland, the fishing lake and Wymond’s brook.

“It was a fabulous day” said owner of Home Instead in Cheltenham and the Costwolds, Amanda Hamer. “The weather was perfect and we enjoyed hot coffee and bacon butties before setting off with a large crowd of over 1500 people who had come to support the Alzheimer’s Society in their work to defeat dementia”.

Amanda said: I would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone from Home Instead plus friends and family, who came on the day and to those who couldn’t come in person but made a donation. I would also like to send a very special thank you and lots of doggie treats to Parker, Casper and Issey - the three adorable pooches that joined us on the day!”

The date for next year’s Cheltenham walk is already set - 7th October 2018. See www.memorywalk.org.uk for details, raise vital funds for Dementia support and join the Home Instead team there!
