Celebrating BBC Music Day 26th September 2019
Home Instead Cheltenham is proud to provide outstanding support to clients within their own homes. To celebrate how the power of music can change lives, we gave two of our Clients the special opportunity for a one on one session with Kyle Newman, a professional singer to show our support for BBC Music Day.
Taking them down memory lane, we enjoyed a sing-a-long to their favourite tunes. Some classics like Frère Jacques were sung in a round and it was inspiring to see and hear. One client re-called a beautiful poem called the Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, from her childhood. She also sang us the Anzac song from when she lived in Australia and then the English national anthem! Showing us that poems and other musical tunes can also bring back beautiful memories for those living with Dementia.
It is magical to see someone reconnecting with their past memories through music and singing.
For the afternoon we hosted a session for the residents at Middleton House in their community lounge. We had tea, cakes and sang some tunes with Kyle. We had a fantastic time and we were lucky to see so many taking part and singing. Que Sera Sera, by Doris Day was our favourite!
You can find some photos and videos of the day on our Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/homeinsteadcheltenham/
