We understand most do not plan for care for themselves or their loved one – and often find themselves needing support following an admittance to hospital. We also know that if care is put in place before a needs must situation, a client is 80% less likely to have a hospital admittance in the first place – and therefore able to stay safely in their own homes for longer.

2. Why is live in care different?
· Moving to a new home is a stress for anyone, even at the best of times. Couple that with moving into residential care – with set routines, set meals and set visiting times – and it can become a real strain and disruption to a person’s life.
· Live in care means you can keep the same daily routines, and friends and family can continue to visit as they normally do. With a spare room in your home, your live in home carer will be there to support you each day, as much or as little as you like and according to what matters to you most.
· Not all home care providers offer a regulated service. In fact, many care agencies simply introduce you to a CAREGiver, meaning that you’ll need to manage their pay, arrange cover for their breaks, holidays, or if they’re ill, and handle any appraisals or concerns yourself..

3. What services do you offer?
As a bespoke private provider – we would like to think we can do most things – this can be pruning roses bushes for some, baking cakes with others, doing a cross word and or supporting with medication and personal care.
· Shopping and cleaning
· Fresh home cooked meals of the clients choice (no microwave digging here!)
· Personal care: Bathing, dressing
· Tailored care for certain health conditions: Dementia, Parkinson’s and many others
· Companionship: a cup of tea and a chat, loneliness prevention
· Personal errands, this can range from walking the dog and some gardening, anything the clients need we can be there to support

4. How much will I be expected to pay?
The cost of care for people later in life is a source of much media attention and debate. For people and their families that are considering care options, the financial implications and the ongoing cost of care can be a major worry. Looking after a loved one in the right way should be about their individual needs being met and, crucially, quality of life. We work with you to set up a payment plan that as cost effective as possible without ever compromising the care of your loved one!
5. How qualified are the CAREGivers that will be visiting?
Our CAREGivers are the best of the best. This is because a career with us is considered a privilege in the care community. We take the time to find empathetic, enthusiastic, people with a big heart and a warm friendly nature, Our CAREGivers endure a detailed training programme during the recruitment selection process before they start with us. We offer a range of additional courses and ensure always that we pick the right CAREGiver for the right client.
6. What does a live in carer do?
A live-in carer will move in to your property and is on hand 24 hours a day to meet all of your care needs around the clock. They can help with personal care, medication, household tasks and complex care. But their role is not restricted to this only.
7. What doesn’t a live in carer do?
They are not able to assist with tasks that a district nurse would complete such as administering injections or changing dressings on open wounds. They are unable tocarry out DIY or other in-house alterations.
8. Do carers need their own room?
Yes, a carer does require their own bedroom. They require a minimum of a single bed and a door that fully closes to ensure their privacy. It is vital that a carer has a place of their own to relax and sleep when they are not working.
9. What do I need to provide for a live-in carer?
A live-in carer needs their own bedroom with a minimum of a single bed and a wardrobe or chest of drawers for them to store their belongings whilst they are with you. Other than this your live-in carer will be happy to share all other facilities.
10. What are carers not allowed to do?
Carers are not permitted to carry out the duties of a district nurse such as changing dressings on open wounds or administering injections. They cannot partake in any home improvements or DIY.
11. How long will a carer stay with me?
A live-in carer will stay in your property, on average, for 3-6 weeks at a time. Or a duration that suits you. They will then take a break of 1-2 weeks, in which time a replacement carer will stay. The two of them will then work on a rotation.
12. When do carers take time off and have breaks?
Every carer is entitled to 14 hours of breaks over the course of a working week, this can be divided in a way that suits you best. Commonly it is split in to two hours each day, or a few afternoons a week.
13. How do I know we’ll get on?
We ask you about the sort of person you get on well with, noting your interests, hobbies and personality. We then match you up with a compatible carer. You can read about them, see their picture and speak with them before they come to stay to see what you think.
14. How are Home Instead Charnwood protecting my loved ones during COVID-19?
We know the situation around COVID-19 can be a worrying time and we wanted to add some reassurance to you about the measures we’re taking to protect our clients and CAREGivers at this time. Our CAREGivers receive comprehensive training in infection control and are strictly following industry guidance from the UK’s Public Health Authorities and World Health Organisation which includes emphasis on the importance of safe handwashing practice.
In line with the latest Government advice all our CAREGivers are working hard to minimise the risk of transmission through safe working procedures. This includes the use of personal protection equipment (PPE) as needed. PPE includes the use of masks, aprons, gloves and/or eye protection when delivering care. If a CAREGiver is concerned they may have COVID-19, they are being urged to follow NHS advice. If advised to self-isolate at home, they will follow the Government’s stay at home guidance and will not carry out visits until safe to do so.
We continue to follow direction provided by the UK’s Public Health Authorities and World Health Organisation and review guidance daily, working closely with organisations such as the UK Home Care Association.
15. How quickly can the support start?
We aim to be as responsive as possible, as long as we can find the right CAREGiver to support at this time, we can start the care as soon as the client needs it – often securing personalised packages of care within 24 hours of meeting the client.
