One of our clients in Bath was so pleased to receive an extra visitor during bring you pet to work week; She has always had dogs but sadly due to her decline in health she is no longer able to have her own pets. So she was over the moon that we could achieve this for her.

Val was really pleased to be back in the water and told me she felt totally comfortable and safe with Simone there. I never thought we would get Val swimming again as I am no swimmer even though it has been one of Val’s favourite activities. I asked her for a quote about it all and she just said it was ‘lovely, lovely, lovely’. So, I think that sums it up.

When asked what the companionship visits mean to Maria, she said. I sit and wait looking out the window for Julia. She is never late and when I see her car I go to open the door. The visits are fantastic and they brighten up my whole day.

Thank you for your personal support, Lisa. You have helped us both enormously in making the difficult decision to move to residential care for dad and I am really grateful for your honest appraisal of dad’s needs – it’s hard when you’re in the middle of it, and professional input from someone who knows your relative well is incredibly helpful. I am also immensely thankful for the support of everyone in your team when dad fell or needed emergency services, especially when staff took dad to hospital or waited for me to get over to Corsham.
Daughter of Brian (client in Corsham)

My mum (and my siblings and me) were absolutely satisfied with the care and support received from Home Instead. From the initial contact right through to meeting the Care Professionals, we were delivered a professional, thorough, and thoughtful service. They really went the extra mile to try and meet our needs. The Care Professionals were very well-matched with Mum, she enjoyed their visits and struck up a real friendship with them. This gave us confidence and security very much needed when a family member becomes vulnerable and home alone.
Jo S, Daughter of client in Bathford

Home Instead have been looking after my mother in Wiltshire for seven years. They were able to keep her safe in her own home for much longer than otherwise could.
They were a huge support to me when my mother had a terrible fall at home.
Ruth D, Daughter of client in Biddestone

Mum’s Care Professionals were outstanding, and she viewed them as friends. Always attentive to her wishes and needs and well matched to Mum’s character. Mum didn’t like changes and the service and care was very consistent. Thank you.
Pamela C, Daughter of client in Corsham

Home Instead offers a brilliant service provided by highly professional, friendly, and understanding staff. They have made everything so much easier, not just for my mother, but for the whole family. Thank you!
Jenny Y, Daughter of client

We have been so impressed by your carers – they are efficient, punctual and kind and your company has never let us down. They are also carers in the true sense, not just fulfilling a role but interacting with Iain and the rest of the family, as individuals who are going through a difficult time. Please pass on our gratitude to all of them – and also many thanks to managers who pitched in when needed.
We wish your company all the best for the future and would not hesitate to recommend you to others in a similar position.
Jan, Iain, Matthew and Ben

The flexibility, responsiveness and initiative shown by the supervisors and carers at Home Instead has been excellent.
Communication has been strong, using the portal online, regular emails, and phone calls for more urgent issues.
Where problems have arisen, the team have swung into action to find solutions, visiting the pharmacy, visiting my mum in hospital, picking up shopping, and booking hair or medical appointments.
Each carer to visit my mum has been personally introduced, is friendly and really takes time to get to know her. I couldn’t ask for more. The companionship visits and shopping trips have been particularly valuable, massively enhancing my mum’s quality of life.

Inevitably, for such a quality service, demand is high, and scheduling calls for specific times isn’t always easy. But the managers have gone above and beyond to do their best to accommodate, and by communicating so well, we have always been able to find a solution. Huge thanks to all the team.

From the moment I made the first phone call to Home Instead I knew things would be good. They focused immediately on Mum, asking me to tell them about her rather than telling me about cost and availability. Mum felt very comfortable with everything straight away and didn’t have the anxiety that I had anticipated. The carers are amazing. They have done so much more than I ever expected they would. They are never rushed. I thought it was a cliche when people say that their carers are like friends but Mum is so comfortable with them that I understand what people mean by this now. It has helped me enormously particularly as I don’t have to do all the household jobs myself anymore.

The supervisors are in regular contact to make sure all is well. We were planning to go away for a night and we had to make sure we fitted it around the carers as Mum didn’t want it cancel them! It has been life changing for Mum and me and we are so grateful to Home Instead for their care and efficiency

I’ve recommended the company & carers to my friends & neighbours who either have a family member who needs help or the person him/herself.
I don’t know what I’d do without the help they’ve provided over the years

Search here if you cannot see your town or postcode - What local support is available?
Ensuring reliable live-in care means having robust support ready to handle any changes or emergencies. It’s important to ask how a provider manages carers schedules, especially if adjustments are needed or if a carer is unavailable.
At Home Instead we maintain a comprehensive local team that coordinates alternative arrangements in situations such as if the Care Professional is ill, without disrupting care continuity – ensuring your loved one always receives the attention they need.
- Are your carers employed or are they self-employed?
There are broadly two types of live-in care providers: self-employed carers and professional care companies. Self-employed carers typically offer flexibility and may cost less, but they often lack regulation, comprehensive training, and insurance, which can impact the quality and reliability of care.
Professional care companies, like Home Instead, directly employ Care Professionals who are rigorously trained and fully background-checked and insured. These employees are covered under the company’s policies, including national insurance and payroll, ensuring a secure, and high-standard care environment.
- What qualifications do your carers have?
Training and qualifications are vital in ensuring live-in carers deliver high-quality care. It’s a good idea to ask about the providers training levels and certifications.
Home Instead’s Care Professionals receive comprehensive training in areas such as mobility support, dementia and Parkinson’s care, catheter management, and end of life support. Our commitment to ongoing professional development ensures they are well-prepared to provide compassionate and effective care across various scenarios.
- How do you match caregivers with clients?
Compatibility between a live-in carer and client can greatly influence the quality of care. It’s beneficial to enquire about the matching process and how a provider ensures that the caregiver’s personality and skills align with the client’s needs and preferences.
At Home Instead, we carefully, match clients with one or more Care Professionals based on shared interests and care requirements to foster a comfortable and supportive relationship.
- How does your service ensure care continuity during emergencies or caregiver changes?
Continuity of care is essential, especially in emergencies or when regular live-in carers are unavailable. Ask your care provider how they handle such situations.
Home Instead has protocols in place to ensure that care continues seamlessly, with trained Care Professionals ready to step on so that your loved one’s needs are always met without interruption.
- What is live-in care?
Live-in care means a trained, professional carer will live with you in your home in order to provide the care you need on a regular basis, and support your specific needs. This is often a preferable alternative to a care home or nursing home, and it allows older people to remain living in their own home alongside a constant companion who can assist with things like personal care, specialist medical care, cooking, housework, and more.
Discover More - How much does live-in care cost?
Every live-in care package is unique to the individual client, so the best way to gauge how much this will cost you is to get in touch to discuss your loved ones needs. As a rough guide to cost, live-in care through an agency often ranges from around £1,350 to £2,000 per week in the UK, depending on their needs and other factors mentioned in our guide on cost linked below.
Discover More - How many hours does the Care Professional work?
Live-in care is not the same as 24-hour care. A Care Professional will typically work an 8 to 10 hour day. Those hours will be discussed in your initial assessment and tailored to suit the needs of the person receiving care. A live-in Care Professional is of course on hand in case of emergencies, but it is not generally expected that they will provide ongoing night care. The Care Professional also needs to have breaks throughout the day, and other Care Professionals may visit the home if a wrap-around care service is offered, giving the main care provider their needed breaks without any interruption in support.
- What will a live-in Care Professional require?
A live-in Care Professional must have their own bedroom for personal space. It is also typically expected that the home has an internet connection. Arrangements for food will be discussed in your consultation, but the Care Professional typically receives a weekly food allowance to purchase food for themselves. Live-in Care Professionals may cook and eat with their clients, or they may decide to do this separately, depending on the dietary requirements and personal preferences of everyone involved.
- What are the benefits of live-in care at home?
Live-in care at home empowers the elderly to maintain their independence, dignity, and a sense of control over their lives, while still receiving dedicated, comprehensive support. By far the main benefit is that live-in care allows care recipients to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own home, which can significantly enhance emotional well-being and quality of life. This form of care is highly personalised, adapting to the specific needs and routines of the individual, ensuring tailored support for daily activities, medication management, mobility assistance, and more. The one-on-one nature of live-in care fosters a strong bond between the Care Professional and care recipient, providing companionship and reducing feelings of isolation. Staying at home eliminates the disruption and stress often associated with moving to a care facility, and even 24 hour live-in home care can also be considerably more cost-effective than residential care options, as it avoids facility fees which can often be extremely steep.
