However toe nails often don’t get the same level of attention until a painful condition starts to affect our mobility. As we get older we become more prone to troublesome toenails, but careful and timely care of those nails can catch such conditions early and help to avoid the resulting discomfort, potentially preserving our mobility and quality of life.

We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Without the carers’ daily visits, these two elderly people simply could not continue to live at home, as they cannot prepare food, hot drinks, or be trusted to take their medication. Nails tend to grow at a slower rate over time, decreasing by around 0.5% per year from age 25 onwards. For elderly people, nails grow very slowly, and studies suggest they can become thicker, more brittle, misshapen, and discoloured, developing a yellow tint.
