One of three English villages with the same name, Oakley (Hampshire) is a village and civil parish four miles west of Basingstoke with a population of just under 6,000. It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Happiest village in Britain
In the centre of the village is a duck pond inhabited by mallards and coots, surrounded by thatched houses. As well as local shops, the village is endowed with three pubs.
The parish has two conservation areas and much of the villages of Oakley and nearby Deane, together with 17 listed buildings, lie within them.
