Mortimer is steeped in ancient history, with the iron age settlement Calleva Atrebatum and the former Roman town of Silchester nearby.
Burghfield Common has grown steadily over the last 30 years but has nevertheless retained its community feel. It is crossed by a stream and has two ponds and a pond house, and is surrounded by the rural tranquillity of open countryside and woodland. In angling circles “The Burghfield Common” refers to a mighty 62½ lb English common carp pursued by anglers in nearby Burghfield Main Lake.
