Home Instead Bake for 'World Biggest Coffee Morning'

Last week we took part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The annual event is the Charities biggest fundraising event, helping them to raise an incredible £27.5m in 2019. Although things were a little different this year and we could not actually host our own coffee morning event like we have done in previous years, that did not stop us from wanting to be involved. This year, we tasked our CAREGivers with sending in photos of them and their clients in the kitchen putting their baking skills to the test and for each one received, we would donate £5.00 to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Local Scout Group Donate Chocolate for Clients

Last week Home Instead York had a visit from local Scout, Bill who, kindly donated Yorkie bars for all our clients to enjoy. Bill was meant to be part of a team of 36 scouts 'The Jorvik Yorkies' representing North Yorkshire on a trip to the European Scout Jamboree in Poland, back in June. Unfortunately, the trip had to be postponed until 2021 due to COVID. Each of the Jorvik Yorkies had to raise their own funds for the trip and they were tasked with taking something to Poland that represented their local area. The local Scout group therefore decided to speak to Nestle, which is based in York, who very kindly agreed to donate some of their Yorkie Bars. As the Jorvik Yorkies could no longer go on their trip, they thought that it would be better if people in York benefitted from the chocolate bars. They therefore got in touch with us about donating some for our clients to enjoy. Thank you to the Jorvik Yorkies for your incredibly kind gesture!

University Research Study - Land

A New Social Care Study

Home Instead Senior Care York are delighted to be partnering with The University of York to give local people the chance to contribute to an important study. Many older people pay privately for social care. When trying to find that social care for the first time, some people find that navigating the care system to be a stressful and confusing process. Local authorities are expected to provide help and information to assist, but in reality, these ‘self-funders’ and their families are often left to ‘go it alone’. This can result in families making big decisions, at a very challenging time, with little or no support. What can we do to make things better? The University of York is looking at how people find, choose and arrange care, for a loved one or for themselves. They are looking to speak to families of older people paying privately for social care and/or the older person getting care and are also interested in speaking to people who might need care in the future. The University’s research will ask people what is important when they make choices about social care. The study will use a number of different ways to find out your views, including by phone and online. You may receive further information from Home Instead shortly, but in the meantime, if you would like to find more information, or would like to volunteer, please contact Rowan Jasper to find out more on or 07385 341573.

Home Instead Senior Care York are delighted to announce that their plans to have two brand new registered care managers with the regulatory body The Care Quality Commission (CQC), have been a success.
