See how specialist dementia home care transformed a client's life, bringing peace of mind to her and her family, and letting a friend be a friend again.
Our client was an elderly lady living alone, who had never married and had no family living nearby. Her siblings lived hundreds of miles away, meaning they were unable to offer any form of practical support.
Having suffered a stroke, she initially recovered quite well; however, shortly afterwards she was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and took the decision to entrust Power of Attorney to her closest friend, who was also her part-time carer.
Due to the effects of living with dementia, our client’s doctor suggested it would be advisable for her to seek specialist care. However, at that time, she was very much against the idea, whilst her friend wanted to continue supporting her as much as possible, she was finding balancing her own family life with caring for her friend extremely challenging.
She felt very much, stuck in the moment.

Having researched local home care providers our client’s friend arranged an appointment with Home Instead, during which it soon became evident that the company was best suited to meeting her friend’s needs.
This included a CQC Outstanding rating and Care Professionals who had received award-winning City & Guilds assured dementia training. With the knowledge and understanding of our client’s concerns about having strangers visit her home, Home Instead provided a matched Care Professional, who began delivering a care package.
The client quickly began to develop a positive relationship with her Care Professional. Her care plan was delivered through a person-centred, companionship-led approach, which ensured that a mutual trust and understanding quickly developed.
Having realised that her Care Professional understood her needs, our client expressed she felt more in control of living at home. She greatly valued the companionship provided by her Care Professional and began to look forward to their visits.
The outcome is our client feels safe and well at home, with the knowledge that she has the right support from people who fully understand her. Her family have peace of mind that their sister is able to remain living happily at home, supported by people who are able to fully care for her, and her friend was able to become a friend again.
