In the heart of the community

A&K Community Hub's afternoon tea was extra special yesterday, when some unexpected guests dropped in to show their support.
Our Community Engagement Officer, Helen Hickey, had a wonderful afternoon supporting the afternoon tea at the A & K Community Hub in Birkenhead yesterday.
Supporting our local seniors
Helen and our colleague Pauline regularly support community events designed for local seniors across the peninsula, from singing café’s in West Kirby, Wallasey, Birkenhead and Port Sunlight to Companionship Cafés in Neston, and lots more in between.
Surprise Visit
However, it’s not everyday that you get a surprise visit from local dignitaries, which is exactly what happened yesterday when the Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Brian and Helen Kenny, dropped into the event to show their support.
Mayor Kenny spoke to the sixty strong group about the importance of community and expressed his appreciation of the difference made by Tony Grant, Laura Newcombe, Emma Saunders and all A&K’s fantastic volunteers to people the local community.
The Mayor and Mayoress’s visit really made it an extra special day, which included great live entertainment, a range of hot and cold food and of course some lovely brews and biscuits courtesy of our Helen.
Home Instead Wirral is honoured to be part of these fantastic community events as they’re a joy to be part of as they bring a real sense of community in a time when online media is so prevalent. It just goes to prove that you can’t beat a real in-person get together and some warm companionship. Well done everyone – see you next time.
