Anitra talks all things Dementia awareness and care with Graham Brooklands Radio.,

Today, during Dementia Action week, Anitra, our founder, spoke to Graham Laycock of Brooklands Radio .

Anitra talked about her passion for helping others to understand what Dementia is and how it can present differently from one person to the next, and why then, it is so important that our care givers ( or CarePros as we like to call them!) build a bond with our clients who are living with dementia.

She explained that in our minimum one hour long companionship calls, Home Instead Care Givers help to rekindle memories from days gone by, by talking to family and friends or the client themselves, and engaging  in favourite activities or hobbies. These companionship calls also help to keep clients mobile, active and social, by going out together on walks in the park, or to community social events.

Graham touched on the fact that Home Instead Windsor, Runnymede and West Spelthorne will be holding several events, two this week alone!! These are for family and friends and members of the community to learn What Dementia means for them as a family, how to manage with the changing needs of a loved one living with Dementia.

As a Dementia friend and a “Train the trainer”, Anitra is super knowledgeable on about Dementia, as well as other areas of health that can be affected as we age. She feels that they will be of great value to family and friends who care for those living with dementia, as well as other groups who may encounter people with different needs, retailers like garden centres, farm shops, coffee shops, supermarkets, community hubs and projects, hairdressers, and doctors’ surgeries.

So passionate and dedicated is she, that an Open Day at Home Instead  is set for June 9th, with talks and workshops and question sessions and ITS FREE to attend ( Just let us know if you plan on coming, so that we know how much cake to bring!)
