Rebecca gets all excited about Zumba at Home Instead

I started dancing at a very young age , have a National Diploma in Dance and dance in the evenings and train at The Royal Academy of Dance on Saturdays. So to be able to combine my passion for dance with my passion for the elderly is like a dream come true!

Here at Home Instead Senior Care, we have set up activities for our clients at our Memory Cafe and The Zumba® Gold Chair Programme is one of them. The psychological and physiological benefits for the elderly attending these classes are incredible. Why shouldn’t they be encouraged to exercise? Seeing my participants smile and socialise with each other fills me with warmth and contentment.

Research shows that Zumba® is proven to aid the management and even treatment of dementia and other neuromuscular conditions. Zumba® classes have shown an improvement in both physical fitness and cognitive function. The sessions exercise the part of the brain which vital to memory. Zumba®  requires the brain to make decisions when following routines and also improves mind/body co-ordination. It is effective because it requires attentive thinking to keep up with the next move. Even when a dance has repetitive moves, the brain still has to remember what comes next.

Our classes at the Memory Cafe also provide a fantastic opportunity for participants to socialise with others, including our specialist trained CAREGivers and enjoy a piece of cake and cup of tea after the sessions.

Zumba® is a brilliant form of exercise and when doing it, you do not realise how hard your body is actually working. It is amazing. It combines exotic rhythms which are set to high-energy Latin and international beats.

Join us at The Rose Theatre Kingston on June 6th at 10:30 for some fun.  For information contact Me, Rebecca on 0208 942 4137
