Home Instead launch Men’s Club in New Malden

Forget men in sheds at this time of year!

Our community activities have proved to be very successful over the years. Wives in particular tell us regularly how much they enjoy bringing their husbands who may have a bit of dementia as they enjoy sharing time with others in similar situations to them.

We do listen to feedback and there was a request from a number of the wives which we couldn’t ignore.

‘Could we have a Men’s Club, just for men, in a pub?’

How could we say no?  So on the 7th December we launched our first club, in The Watchman pub in New Malden. Twenty-five attended the inaugural lunch, including male Caregivers from Home Instead, accompanying their clients, a son came with his Dad and a couple of volunteers.

And what a great time they had.

Just goes to show that when people get old, they just want to be normal, do every day things, enjoying the company of others in normal surroundings. Institutionalised environments are what make people feel old.

So feedback was – let’s do it again, regularly! So we will.
