Clare Jefferies becomes a Dementia Friends Champion.

A very large number of our clients here in Wimbledon and Kingston have dementia, so to tie in with the work Home Instead is already doing of offering as many people in local community a basic understanding in Dementia through our family and friends workshops, stepping up to be a Dementia Friends Champion, reinforces our determination to make a difference to those living with Dementia.

What is Dementia Friends?

  • A social action movement
  • Funded by the Department of Health for England and the Cabinet Office.
  • Led by the Alzheimer’s Society as one strand of its work to create Dementia Friendly Communities.
  • Becoming a Dementia Friend gives people an understanding of dementia and the small things that they can do that can make a difference to people living with dementia - from helping someone find the right bus to spreading the word about dementia.
  • The project aims to create a network of a million Dementia Friends across England by 2015.

A Dementia Champion is a volunteer, who encourages others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in their community. They do this by running information sessions about the personal impact of dementia, and what they can do to help.

Clare has joined the Merton Dementia Action Alliance to create communities who understand Dementia, help people live independently and support the challenge of training one million people!
