Local lady Dionne Mant had been living off benefits for years after she became a single mum with a daughter of only 5 months old. After swearing off work for good, Dionne has recently been enticed back into employment by providing care to the elderly at home.

Dionne, aged 34 from Kingston-upon-Thames, made the radical decision to go back to work when her daughter started secondary school. As she required flexible hours, and wanted to do something rewarding, she thought it would be impossible to find a suitable job…until she came across Home Instead Senior Care.

Dionne takes up the story. “I started doing some bar work off and on but found it so tedious and the hours were really unsociable. I had always wanted to be a caregiver as I had personal experience of providing care for my mum, but I didn’t know there were any companies out there that offered in-house training. I heard of Home Instead through a friend of mine and I was really keen to give it a go.”

After her mother had a stroke that impaired her mobility around 4 years ago, Dionne and her siblings stepped in to care for her and to help her to get around. From then on, care had been something Dionne was keen to explore and she was thrilled to find a company that offered her a wealth of career prospects.

Dionne continued, “I absolutely love my job, and not many people can honestly say that! I now have a clear career path for the first time in my life and such a supportive team too.  Now that I enjoy what I do, the days fly by . In just 7 months I have been promoted to Senior Caregiver. To me, its improving someone’s quality of life and that can be something as simple as being able to pick your own fruit!”
