Fundraising for our Charity of the Year

As many of us at Home Instead have personal experiences of this charity, we felt it very necessary to help do our bit to say thank you...

In September 2023, we decided we would like to focus our fundraising efforts on one main charity, something that means a lot to our team. We put out a vote to our Care Professionals and Office Team and the most popular choice was Weston Hospicecare.

Weston Hospicecare is a charity offering treatment for not only patients with cancer, but those with other conditions and life-limiting illnesses. The idea for the hospice was started in 1989 when members of the Weston-Super-Mare community realised the need for end-of-life care and support in our area. For over 30 years Weston Hospicecare has served the community of Weston-Super-Mare and North Somerset’s end of life care needs completely free of charge.

Today, they deliver expert care from their 10-bedroom inpatient unit, Jackson-Barstow House. They also have a team of community nurse specialists who care for patients, and their families, in their own homes. To this day, the care Weston Hospicecare provide is completely free of charge, so they rely heavily on fundraising and donations from the public.

As many of us at Home Instead have personal experiences of this charity, we felt it very necessary to help do our bit to say thank you and help preserve this amazing service. This is why we chose them as our charity of the year.

So far, we have raised over £1,000 for WHC and we are only halfway through our 12 months. We have put on fundraising activities for our team and with the general public, such as wellbeing smoothie days, a raffle with makeover prize from Wezley Webber, a home-made cake sale, and a seafront walk collection.

But we haven’t finished yet! We are holding a pop-up Easter Bake Sale, and in the summer, we will be putting on a big fundraising event at Worle Community Centre. This is going to be a Fashion Show, with clothes from times gone by loaned to us by our Care Professionals and Clients. This will be accompanied by a pre-loved clothes sale, afternoon cream tea and a raffle. Keep an eye on our Facebook Events page for more information.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all our amazing team that have helped us with our fundraising events, and who have donated they time and money to this as well. You are all superstars!
