Live-in care offers you a way to remain independent at home while receiving care and support from a familiar face. It is the perfect solution if you simply want the confidence of having someone with you for company and companionship.
We are the UK's leading provider of care in the home and a live-in care arrangement is an extension of our highest quality care service.
What is live-in care?
A live-in care arrangement is flexible around your specific needs. There are two types of 24hour care we can provide:
Average Daily Hours Agreement:
You decide how many hours in the 24-hour window you will need practical assistance to be provided and a CAREGiver will be hand-picked for you to become your live-in support. They will be your companion and reside in your home, day and night, helping you to carry out those tasks you need them to and more importantly, being a familiar face and a source of company.
Team Support Arrangement:
Sometimes, your level of care needs may be such that we need to provide a team of CAREGivers who follow a shift pattern of live-in care. This means that someone is always dutifully attending your needs. This level of care is suited to those who might need more attentive care around the clock.
We tailor your care plan to meet your specific needs and requirements.
What are the benefits of live-in care?
Moving to a new home is a stress for anyone, even at the best of times. Couple that with moving into residential home with different routines, set meals, reduced privacy and the loss of home can cause stress, disengagement and unhappiness.
Live-in care is another option, a better option for some. Your live-in CAREGiver will have a spare room in your home and will be there to support you each day, as much or as little as you like and according to what matters to you most.
We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality home care in Warwickshire.
How can our live-in CAREGivers support you?
A live-in CAREGiver can make it possible for individuals in need of care to remain safe, clean and comfortable in their homes. Live-in care can include:
· Personal care - assistance with bathing, dressing and toileting
· Continence care, whether it is changing continence pads or managing a stoma or catheter
· Medication support, including prompts or administering medication
· Support with pain management
· Help moving around the home
· Housekeeping duties, including vacuuming, dusting, changing beds and doing the laundry
· Preparing meals
· Caring for your pet
· Running errands to collect prescriptions or food shopping
· Companionship and supporting your independent living at home
When might you consider live-in care?
There are benefits of remaining at home when someone has dementia. A common symptom involves the brain developing a reduced ability to recognise new information and yet memories from time gone by are still able to be recalled. When people live at home, habitual routines can be maintained and this is found to be more comforting for people who can become easily confused by new environments.
Other medical conditions:
Our CAREGivers have specialisms with many different conditions, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, support after a stroke, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, diabetes, Huntington’s disease, and even depression or anxiety.
Whatever your condition, we will create a package of care that helps you to live your life in your own home continue to complete your daily routine.
Losing A Spouse:
When you live with a spouse or partner for many years, suddenly losing that person can have huge consequences. Not only is this a highly emotional time, but practical things may also become a new struggle. It may mean that you suddenly find yourself unable to cook or to keep the house clean and tidy. While a close loved one can never be replaced, with our live-in care you will be matched with a CAREGiver who will be your new companion and they will be a constant in your life. Together you can share precious new memories, making the most of your time together and helping you to experience new recreations or revisit old ones.
As we age, we may start to experience general frailty which becomes increasingly problematic and prevents us from doing certain daily activities. It can be difficult to imagine the enormity of the effect frailty can have on someone who is living at home and struggling to cope. Live-in care can support someone to maintain independence and is a great comfort for families who cannot always be available to help.
Unexpected Event or Illness:
Unexpected events and illnesses can happen and when they do, they can create a great amount of pressure on families who are often the first line of response to providing care and support. Falls and sudden illnesses often require hospitalisation but once a person recovers, their main wish is to get back home. Getting ready for a hospital discharge can often rely on having the right level of care in place, and if family are not able to find a workable solution, live-in care is an option.
We know that caring for loved ones around the clock can be stressful and exhausting. Life is short and time spent with your loved one should be quality time. You do not have to shoulder all the care responsibilities alone. Home Instead is here to help and support you every step of the way. By choosing our tailored live-in care service, you will have peace of mind and regain your own independence knowing that essential things are being taken care of.
Temporary support after an operation:
You may need some temporary care after an accident or a planned operation, such as after a knee or hip operation. Even if it is just for a few days, a CAREGiver can help to ease your recovery at home.
Along with cooking meals and the household chores, your CAREGiver can also support with strengthening exercises, based on guidance from your physiotherapist.
