Meet the team

Mark Hamer

Mark Hamer - Managing Director

I have had a career in Senior Management in the Retail sector, where understanding what people really need and delivering on your promises with a focus on quality service and building strong, lasting relationships have been central to success.

Watching a very close loved one go into care made me ask lots of questions about how care services are traditionally provided, and why so many Seniors end up in residential care when, with help and support they can continue to enjoy life where they really want to be - in their own home.

When I found out about Home Instead Senior Care I knew I had discovered an organisation that would help me operate a care service, which would focus on quality delivery for the individual, not just see care as a task.

I know Warwickshire well, having lived in nearby for several years as well as operating businesses in the area, and I look forward to telling you more about what Home Instead Warwick & Heartlands can do for you.

Dawn Harrison - Registered Care Manager

I have been in the care industry for 20 years, starting in junior schools with children that have special needs and then moving on to seniors with a multitude of needs. I have spent many years working in the Palliative sector before then taking time off to nurse my stepfather at home, where he wanted to be at the end his life.

Doing this made me realize how important it is for people to have the choice of staying at home irrespective of the needs.

At the end of my Step-Father’s life I wanted to work with a team that appreciated and fully believed in the idea of allowing individuals to keep their independence in their own homes for as long as possible, that’s when I found Home Instead.

Starting out as a caregiver in the community, I then went on to manage an Assisted Living Accommodation Complex before attaining promotion to Community Area Supervisor.

With the new birth of Home Instead Warwick & Heartlands, I am privileged to have been offered and accepted the role of Registered Care Manager and I look forward to developing the business and providing the best care available.

Liz Farrell - Client Manager

I started work in care 28 years ago in a nursing home in Leamington Spa, from then I have worked in education as a School Secretary. I returned to care when my Father was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour in 2005 and looked after him for the last 6 weeks of his life. My mother sadly passed with Alzheimers.

Born in Oxford, prematurely while my parents were at a race meeting at Newbury, running a horse called Bridesmaid. Hence I am always early for things.

I was brought up in North Wales, where in my youth I was very involved with the Search and Rescue Dogs and the Mountain Rescue. My parents ran a hotel in Llanberis and I trained in Hotel Catering and Management on leaving school and am a qualified Chef.

I have always been a 'foodie' and enjoy the good food show in Birmingham, as one of my favourite outings twice a year. I enjoy baking and have won bake of competitions twice with some of my cakes.

My best friend Jenny has been my friend since primary school, we still talk each week even though she lives in Poole in Dorset, a good excuse to go to the beach.

I have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. I enjoy looking after my grandchildren but equally enjoy giving them back to their parents.

Care is such a major part of my life, I don't look at it as a career but more as a way of life.

I love what I do and the people I work with, both clients and staff.

Fiona Mackie - CAREGiver Manager

I joined HISC Warwick in December 2018 as a CAREGiver after relocating from Scotland due to my partners job. Despite having worked in the dental industry for the last 15 years or so, I desperately wanted to get back into care. I worked in residential care for several years in the late 80s, early 90s, being promoted through the ranks to become the senior officer for care, before going on maternity leave. Having returned for a short spell following the birth of my daughter I found the hours were too long so moved into domiciliary care, which I loved. I am not actually sure why I left care, but is something I always regretted and said I would get back into one day. That day came in November 2018 when I saw and advertisement for CAREGivers for HISC (the rest is history as they say) I started in the role of Head of CAREGiver Experience in June 2020.

In my spare time I love watching rugby, either on TV or actually attending a game. Nothing beats cheering on my National team when they are playing a home game at Murrayfield, Edinburgh.

I love gardening, walking, swimming and reading, and have a bit of an obsession with elephants. My dream came true in 2018 when on a holiday to Thailand I got to spend the day at an elephant sanctuary. It was a totally amazing experience.

I am a bit of a wimp, but have done a tandem skydive, a 40th birthday present, which I loved, and would actually do again
